“Different, but OK”

I stayed here in a 2 bedroom apartment.
Someone else booked it for me (I have since learned to be in control of my own bookings!) so I was expecting a hotel, not an apartment.

However, it appeared fine.
2 double bedrooms, mine a bit small, the other one a bit larger.
Bathroom seemed satisfactory, a washing machine and tumble drier came in handy as I could wash a few shirts.

Did not really use the kitchen, we soon found a good selection of restaurants along the waterfront, had a great Indian meal in particular. We also found an early opening cafe that did a good hot breakfast, so all in all did not need the kitchen, but long stayers here may find it very useful.

The lounge had a good waterfront view, attractive, and quiet. No noise disturbed me. The lounge was quite a nice place to sit, particularly in the evening, and look at the waterfront.

Service did not really come into it, we were taken up and shown the apartment on check in, and did not really see anyone after that. I departed very early, so left the key in the office.

I found, as others have said, that it was easy to get a taxi, or the tram stop was a short walk away.

All in all, a different experience to a standard hotel, which worked out quite well.

We booked directly with Mercure with two main conditions, firstly that we had a quiet room and secondly that we be close to a family member's apartment. Neither of these criteria were met. Our 1 bed apartment faced Nor-East and received all the traffic and train noise. Secondly our room was on the 20th floor and the family member's room was on the 8th floor, and with the security system we were unable to get to the 8th floor and they were unable to get to the 20th!

The 8th floor apartment was very nice and quiet. It faced South overlooking the water. So my recommendation is when booking make sure you are on the South side.

I would not recommend our style apartment for the infirm, there was a shower over the bath and the bath is extra high, so anyone elderly or infirm may have trouble getting in and out of the bath.
We often stay in apartments and for the same price there are better places to stay than the Mercure Dockside.

We stayed at Docklands serviced apartments for 3 nights, I was able to get a good deal directly through Accor. In preparation for the trip I scoured the net for pictures of the apartments to help my 4 year old get into the holiday spirit. I booked the Grand Mercure Docklands serviced apartments, so every website showed a particular building, a particular apartment and stated the same inclusions eg a bath . However, when we arrived we were directed to a different building, the Condor, and our apartment had no bath! I then realised that Docklands serviced apartments and the Grand Mercure were the same thing- they are advertised as separate accomodation suppliers.
This minor dissappointment aside, our time spent here was enjoyable. We were on the 12th floor and the apartment itself did not dissappoint with a separate bedroom, lounge/dining area, full kitchen, shower/toilet, laundry cupboard and mini balcony. The windows were almost floor to ceiling and the floorboards made a huge impact on my 8 month old sons ability to move around.
Our view was of the city. It was particularly spectacular(and romantic) at night.
The Condor is closest to the city and separate to the cluster of three buildings commonly shown when googling 'Docklands'. The advantage of this was that it was quieter and closer to the trams.
We enjoyed dinner at the Vic steakhouse which offered a childrens menu as well, but the far area of Docklands (Starbucks end) was like a ghost town. Hopefully this is due to its newness as its a lovely area.
We will definitely stay there again as it was comfortable and only a short tram ride to most of Melbournes attractions.

Overall, good place to stay - good location, close to CBD (jump on free tram)and lots of great restaurants along harbour.

We booked - through a last-minute online site - a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom for a GREAT weekly rate (4 of us). There were one or two small issues (including our booking saying harbour view, and us not getting that initially), so they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom harbour view apartment (very happy!!). We stayed in the newest apartment complex, Condor. That is soundproof, and as it is set a little apart from the main area and there are no bars underneath, it was very quiet.

If you have a week, stay out here (it is nice and relaxing). If you only have a few days, you may as well stay in the centre of town, closer to everything. Overall, good place - but don't pay full price, as it is not worth the $425 per night they quote!

“Nice but.....”

We stayed on the fifth floor in a two bedroom apartment. We paid an extra $50 a night for the third child and had a foldout bed there along with the linen - we had to make this bed up ourselves! We had to squish this third bed into the second bedroom - almost impossible as the room held a double bed where our other two children slept. Nicely furnished apartment with all the necessities. More on the edge of the city so you had to walk or catch a tram the five or so blocks into the centre of town. Even on the fifth floor we were kept awake with music from the clubs/restaurants below but not for long as it wasn't very loud for us. I am on the net at the moment checking out Melbourne accommodation for a trip in a couple of months and I won't be staying here again. A better place for couples who would utilise the entertainment along Dockside.
