“What a Find!”

Hotel George - a Kimpton Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Miami, FL
May 5, 2008

I found this hotel on Travelocity and booked it for a weekend away with my 2 best girlfriends. When we arrived, we were scared of what we would find, since the price had been so affordable for the three of us. We were pleasantly surprised. We had called ahead to let them know that we would be arriving late, and when we arrived for check-in, they had all our things ready for us at the front desk. When we got up to the room, our sofa-bed was already pulled out and set up for us, and the sheets were turned down.

On the second night, I got extremely sick, and that was about the only downfall. I was so sick that I couldn't leave to get medicine, and there was nowhere close enough that my friends could walk to. So I ended up nursing myself with Sprite and a soup from the restaurant downstairs. =) The soup was delicious, by the way.
Check out was smooth as well, we even left our luggage there since our flight didn't leave until later in the afternoon. The staff was friendly and polite, and the hotel was quiet. No bothersome noises, and we hardly even saw the other guests that were there (Which could also be because we were up VERY early and returned pretty late). This hotel was EXCELLENT, and I highly recommend it to everyone! =)

Hello and Good Day!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I do hope that you are feeling better. How was the trip back home? You know there is nothing better than a cup of soup when you are feeling ill but next time don’t worry we’ll get the medicine for you, all you need to do is ask!

Thank you for staying and I hope you will be able to come back again. Have a great day!

“Not Exciting”

Hotel George - a Kimpton Hotel

May 5, 2008

I wish I could say better things about this hotel, but everyone needs to know about my horrible experience at The Hotel George. It's a cute, botique hotel close to Union Station, but I'm sure there are so many better options in D.C. The Restaurant is expensive and hours are inconvenient for business travelers. Parking is only valet. The bellman is also the valet, so you have to allow about 10 minutes to get your car.

The absolute worst night-While sleeping at 2 AM, I was woken up by a fire alarm. We all exited the building. We sat outside in the cold for one hour while the Fire Department arrived. Not a single word from hotel staff about what was going on or anything. All hotel guests just sat outside watching in awe. We went back inside the hotel with-again-not a single explanation from hotel staff. I woke up the next morning to absolutely no water-couldn't take a shower or use the sink. The fire was in the water room. Absolutely terrible. There are also billing issues that I'm still trying to resolve with them. There's only one person you can talk to about billing and he never answers his phone, so you're constantly playing phone tag. Lots of options in D.C. Don't pick this one.

Dear W0rldtraveler2000,

Thank you for you recent comments and feedback on Tripadvisor. I sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused by the fire alarm during the night of your visit. Fortunately, there was no damage or injury; however, I certainly understand that the disruption was very inconvenient.

I would be more than happy to discuss the incent in more detail with you and assist you with the billing issues that you describe if they have not yet been resolved.

Thank you again for your feedback and I look forward to speaking with you. My direct line is (202) 661-2709.

Regards,
Jennifer Harris

“Proximity to Union Station”

I wish I could be more enthusiastic about this hotel but the only selling point is the proximity to Union Station. Terrible coffee and noise at night did not make for a pleasant stay.

“Great Hotel!!!”

Hotel George - a Kimpton Hotel

Central Virginia
Apr 6, 2008

I was more than pleased with my recent stay at the Hotel George. My GPS took my right to the front door where we were able to get valet parking, luggage service, and check in all within just a couple minutes. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The bathroom was larger than some hotel rooms I have been in. We ate brunch at the bistro and it was out of this world. And the best part, the location. I will definitely be back and I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

“Good hotel, good value”

Hotel George - a Kimpton Hotel

Feb 29, 2008

I stayed for a weekend in February 08.

As a hotel I felt the George was very good - well equipped rooms, stylish restaurant/bar and courteous staff at a reasonable price. On this basis I would stay again. I had no problems with the issues raised by previous posters, though I did have a room at the front of the building.

The only note of caution I would add is the location. It is perfect for Capitol Hill and Union Station, though somewhat desolate in the evenings and weekends, when the area is almost empty.
