“Nice hotel, great location, pricey parking and breakfast”

We stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night to take in "Spamalot" and the monuments and museums. We found a weekend rate of $109 on the hotel website, and chose the hotel because we were travelling with friends who wanted to use Hilton points for their stay. The location is fantastic; about 5 blocks north of the National Theatre, and a Metro station is right across the street. The room was comfortable, although we only had a view of another buliding. The mattress was extremely comfy, and a refrigerator and microwave were provided. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, and the housekeepers did a fine job.

A couple of cautions: parking was $32 a day, including taxes! Also, the breakfast buffet in the hotel is $16 a person. The food was great, including cooked to order eggs and omelets, but still, $16 was a bit of a shock. In retrospect, we should have booked at the $129 rate that included breakfast.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel for a weekend stay. The Sofitel, a block away, is also a good bet. A couple of good restaurants are Les Halles on Pennsylvania avenue (French), and Finemondo, just a couple of blocks south (Italian).

“Oversold - gave away our rooms, sent us to Maryland”

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Franklin Square

After traveling across the country (San Diego), we arrived at the hotel in DC to be told that the hotel was oversold despite our confirmation and that they would send us to stay in a hotel "10" minutes away. Turns out they sent us over 30 minutes away to a sister hotel in Maryland which the cab driver had difficulty finding. We arrived there after midnight. Their attitude at the DC hotel reflected that this is a common occurance to overbook their rooms and just pass off guests to another hotel. They agreed to pay for the cab fare that night and in the morning to bring us back to the hotel in DC. Meanwhilte, that night, we had not had dinner and ended up going without dinner because the hotel in Maryland's restaurant was closed for the night. Having two kids with us and nothing to eat or even an offer of a free meal in DC was ridiculous. It took an hour and a half to get us back to DC in time for my business meeting there. The situation was a mess and very inconvenient. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. At one point they said, "Oh, we had some guests decide to stay longer so we didn't have your rooms despite your confirmed reservations. Why they didn't tell the other guests, "Sorry, but we are booked with incoming guests who need your room we cannot extend your stay," I don't understand. I guess they think they have enough business that they don't care who they mistreat. Given that I'm in the conference business, they'll never get my company's business.

“Great hotel!”

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. I'm on a limited budget, so it was nice to have such a comfortable and well equipped room for under $100. The beds were fantastic with nice linens. Contrary to what another reviewer wrote, the linens on my bed I had were very clean. The desk chair was top notch. The bathroom was spotless and had nice Neutrogena toilettries.

The convenience to Metro was much appreciated. It is directly across the street.

I didn't take advantage of the restaurant downstairs. It was too expensive. There is a Cosi restaurant next door that would be a more affordable and quicker option. The hotel had a small (about the size of a closet) food store downstairs with limited pantry type options.

“Great hotel for your $$$”

Hotel to my surprise was a great hotel. For the price you had a very comfortable bed, great pillows. Hotel was very clean, free coffee in the lobby. Rooms came with a fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. Conveinent to White House and many other locations. But what stood out the most was some of the staff. The bartender at the quaint bar in the lobby was amazing. He treated my kids with respect. Provided them with snacks and kiddy cocktails, even taught them a few magic trick. The waitress in the grill name Ines also was amazing. Giving our group extra attention, again treating my kids with care. She provided service beyond what most waitress will do. The only fault in the hotel was the valet parking. You can only park by valet, which if fine, but we had to go in the hotel and find someone to help us out.

“Great Location!!!!”

We loved the location of the hotel. It was right across the street at McFerson Square. We took the Metro everywhere - $6.50 for all day. If we didn't take it, we walked. The White House was only a few blocks away.

At first our stay didn't start well. After asking for early check in, we didn't get this request when we arrived at 11 AM. I am a Gold member, but if I wasn't I would have been disappointed either way. The lady at the desk was very rude and unhelpful.

The room was clean.

The free wireless in the room was horrible. The signal was low and when I used the LAN connection it was slow too. You may want to ask for a room close to a signal.

The breakfast was very good, but expensive ($14.95/person). If you are a Gold member this is free.

I do recommend the hotel for location and the cleanliness.
