“Great hotel in a quiet area of DC”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

While this hotel is a little challenging to get to for the first time (take the Massachusetts access-type road near Thomas Circle), it is worth it. This is a very quiet area of DC and safe at night. But it is within walking distance of a lot of things, including the metro about 5 blocks away. The room was a typical 2 room suite with a small kitchen. Everything was clean and comfortable. I hardly saw anyone else in the hotel, unless I was trying to use the business center (the 2 computers were always busy). Valet parking at $25 a night is expensive, but they are quick. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay here again.

“Very practical family hotel”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

We stayed at Homewood Suites for a week over Spring Break, and found it to be a very good solution to our travel needs. Because of some very minor issues, we might look around for other options prior to planning another return, but we might equally well find ourselves there again if the price is right.

Pros: Clean, a good value, reasonably central location, free hot breakfast every day (with plenty of choices), free supper (w/ beer & wine) Mon-Thur, good basic facilities (laundry, business center, free wired Internet, in-room kitchen, parking, small concession stand).

Cons: Just a bit far from the subway for very young kids (about a 15 minute walk), no menu choice at free supper (fine for adults looking to economize, not so great for picky kids), various very minor service glitches that made it seem staff didn't have its act 100% together (e.g. room supplies not replenished consistently, inadequate hodge-podge of utensils in kitchen, morning grocery order delivered after dinner time -- all minor and remediable, but unnecessary for an otherwise well-run operation).

Bottom line is that it absolutely worked for our family of four, but there was also room for improvement.

“Great for Business, Families or a School Trip.”

I recently stayed at the Homewood Suites for an entire week, while taking a group of high school students on a trip to Washington DC. The advantages of this hotel are many, including:

1. An extensive breakfast buffet is included.
2. A manager's reception on Monday through Thursday evenings, which included complementary food, beer and wine.
3. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff.
4. Large, clean suites, and a new feel to the entire hotel.
5. A very competitive price. I paid on average $100 per room less than neighboring hotels were offering, and got so much more, including an entire suite, and complimentary meals.
6. A safe neighborhood, where I felt comfortable to walk with my group of students at night.
7. Close proximity to the McPherson Square metro station, and within walking distance to Dupont Circle and the White House. Depending on how energetic of a walker you are, you are within walking distance of the entire Mall.
8. The climate control worked very well for air conditioning and heating, plus there is a ceiling fan above the beds.

The only disadvantages I could identify were that is was a 15 minute walk to the Metro, which some of the people in my group found to be too long. The other one was that even though they had complimentary internet access in the room (which worked very well), it was not wireless, so I had to stay within cord's length of the outlet, and was not able to use my laptop anywhere in the suite.

All in all, this will be one of my top choices when I return to Washington, DC. Last time I stayed in DC, I stayed at the Washington Hilton north of Dupont Circle, and in comparison, fell that I received much more value for the price at the Homewood Suites than at the full service Hilton.

“Homewood Suites ... Sweet”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

4 of 5 stars
Braintree, Massachusetts
Apr 8, 2008

We were in DC for a wedding the weekend of April 5th, and the Homewood Suites was one of the hotels recommended by the couple. An excellent choice!

The staff was friendly and helpful. The business center was free, a welcome surprise, and there was a well-equipped exercise room that looked quite inviting, if only I had brought my workout stuff:)

The two-room set up was similar to a Residence Inn floor plan -- good sized, two tv's, comfortable bed, kitchen area with fridge, large microwave, etc. and a full breakfast included in the rate as well.

Good location for tourists and visitors to DC, within walking distance of Dupont Circle and more than one metro line.

“I'm Picky--Loved It!!”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

Apr 7, 2008

Stayed at this property for 4 nights with my husband, 12 year old and 8 year old last week in March '08. We were very happy with our choice. It was very clean (and I am picky) and every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. GREAT free breakfast. My kids had fresh melon everyday, made their own waffles in the waffle maker, there were eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, cereal, doughnuts--you name it. We left for our adventures each day very full. The ladies who keep it stocked and clean were very helpful and efficient. We drove and we would call for our car every morning while we were eating. They got it quickly and happily. Of course we tipped them each time, and paid a daily parking fee, but no fee was associated with them retrieving our car as often as we wanted. The suite was great because we would put the kids to bed and watch TV in the other room afterwards while they slept. Quick walk to the subway.
