There is eveything to like about this hotel. The location allows you to walk / take the metro (1 block) to everywhere you would want to go and the rooms and service are exemplary.

Check in was pleasant and efficient and the room absolutely silent from any extraneous noise with all the facitlities you would expect from a top hotel.

What really nails the excellent rating is the helpfulness of the concierge and attitude of every single memeber of staff which was attentive and felt genuinely courteous.

To cap it all off look out for some excellent rates available particulalry at weekends.

We would absolutely no hesitation staying here again.

Just had the perfect week long stay at the Sofitel. All the staff from the front desk to the concierge, door men and maid were unfailingly friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. As an example I couldn't figure out the television so rang the front desk; someone arrived within 5 minutes and sorted it out; 5 minutes later the front desk rang to see if it had been sorted to my satisfaction.

Lovely room with Roger & Gallet toiletries and all areas of the hotel were in perfect condition; in addition the location is central to everything with a Metro station around the corner.

Would choose the Sofitel again without hesitation; very highly recommended. You won't regret it!

“Good quality hotel”

Sofitel Lafayette Square

Apr 21, 2008

We had a good stay here - close to the white house and bus/metro routes. A very smart hotel, clean and excellent service, with v good facitities - but more of a business hotel and geared towards that customer base, which made us feel a little uncomfortable as mere tourists. Prices at bar and bistro reflected that. As in the business district - very difficult to find places to eat in evenings that were a reasonable price - had to walk out of cbd to do so.

Got a great deal on the Sofitel through Hotwire for a short trip over the Christmas holiday with my fiance, and it was worth every penny. The staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating, particularly when I inquired about avoiding paying for parking. Location can't be beat - one block from the White House and very close to museums and the Mall. Workout facilities were top notch, in fact, I think they were even better than my $100+/month gym. Also enjoyed the free coffee and tea in the morning; just grab a paper and you can spend at least an hour relaxing in the bar area. Our room was nicely appointed and the beds were insanely comfortable. Only complaint is that our extra Tempur-pedic pillow was missing from the closet. I would highly recommend this hotel and would return in a heartbeat.

“Completely Satisfied”

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during the Cherry Blossom festival. We were very happy with our decision. The room was very spacious, very clean and updated. It was our anniversary so they upgraded us, however, our room looked like the room pictured on their website, so I'm not sure if our room was any bigger or had any additional amenities.

The bathroom was very nice, lots of marble, and a separate glass enclosed shower and tub. There was also a nice 42" flat screen (LCD) television with High Def programming. Very nice, even though we didn't spend much time in the room to view it.

Not much a view from the window, just basically other buildings, but at least they were architectually pleasing to the eye.

The staff was very friendly. Did not visit the restaurant or bar, so cannot comment on them. Although, the bar was fairly busy in the evenings, but not loud.

The location was great. It is less than a fifth of a mile to the White House. The Washington Monument and The Mall are a little less than a mile away - walking distance. If you don't feel like the walk, two metro stations are just a block away.

During the weekend, there is not much in the way of restaurants to eat at (anytime of the day or night) in the immediate vicinity.

Parking Tip: We were able to find parking on the street (even during the festival time) for FREE! Instead of paying the $35/day, we found metered parking on the street that did not require any money after 6pm. During the week, we had to move the car by 8am, but on the weekend you can leave it until about 10am. Big money saver!

Overall, very happy with this hotel.

P.S. The restaurant at the corner north from the hotel entrance, has the greasiest food (even the grits) and the absolute most obnoxious service I have ever experience in my entire life. Wouldn't go back if they were offering free food.
