“It was OK”

George Washington University Inn

Jul 16, 2008

We had heard a lot of positive things about the GWU Inn 'suites', as advertised in all their literature. However, our room was a regular hotel room with a microfridge and microwave oven -- definitely not a suite, definitely nothing special, none of the amenities we'd heard so much about (ie complimentary robes), and certainly not worth the extra expense for a "boutique" hotel.

The bathroom was a bit dated and tiny. The beds were very comfortable except the comforter -- down???-- was so heavy I felt like i was being crushed.

To be fair, the front desk staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

I will shop around before staying here again.

“Great price, good location, ok place”

George Washington University Inn

This hotel is indeed in a quiet location. I haven't heard a single care drive by and my room is on the street.

The deal here is that the place is nothing special but it is clean.

The elevator is very small and creeks along, so if you are afraid of tight spaces that might me a concern.

The suites are very spacious--think 1 bedroom apartmen with a kithenette.

There is one ice machine and that is on the eight (top) floor.

CVS, chinese food, and liquor store are about three blocks away in the Watergate center.

If your looking for an affordable, not flashy, quite, and roomy place to stay. You just found it.

“Convenient, quiet location”

George Washington University Inn

4 of 5 stars
West Lafayette IN
Jun 7, 2008

We stayed here June 3-5, 2008 because we had business at GW. Previously, we had stayed at the Doubletree across the street, but in the future, I would choose this hotel over the Doubletree.

The hotel is located in a residential area on the edge of GW's campus. Our room was on the 2nd floor and faced 25th St. and it was very quiet. It's a short walk to the Metro, GW, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, etc. The rooms include kitchens and there is a 7-11 on 24th St., a Safeway in theWatergate, and a Trader Joe's north on 25th St to stock the kitchen. Our kitchen was stocked with an odd assortment of flatware (e.g., we only had 1 knife).

The rooms were clean and had complimentary wired internet (the hotel supplied the cable). The bathroom fixtures are a little dated, but the shower had great temperature and pressure.

I also felt that the staff was friendlier and more helpful than the staff at the Doubletree.

The hotel didn't have a pool, but guests can use the Bally Fitness Center.

One night we walked to Georgetown for dinner (fantastic seafood dinner at Sea Catch on the canal) and the other we ate at the restaurant downstairs because it was pouring rain. We had the clams, softshell crab, lamb, tagliatelle, and lobster ravioli. Everything was good, but the lamb and soft shell crab were particularly good. They also brought several different kinds of bread.

“Great Location!!”

The hotel is in a great location. It is 2 blocks away from the Foggy Bottom metro station, 15 minute walk to Georgetown, and 15 minute walk to the Lincoln Memorial. The hotel is a true 3 star hotel, and worth it's price. A good restaurant that is walking distance is Meiwah Restaurant, (202/833-2888) at the cornor of M St. and New Hampshire NW.

“Perfect choice for our needs”

George Washington University Inn

4 of 5 stars
Denver, Colorado
May 15, 2008

My husband and I spent seven days in D.C. as tourists. We wanted to stay near a metro station; we wanted a king-size bed; we wanted to space to spread out after a day fighting sightseeing middle-schoolers; if breakfast wasn't included, we wanted a kitchen setting to prepare it ourselves. And we wanted a reasonable price.

After three days of online research, I chose the George Washington University Inn, and we weren't disappointed.

We paid $230 per night with a flight/hotel package through Expedia. We had a king suite with an eat-in kitchen, a large sitting area, and a good-size bathroom and bedroom.

The Foggy Bottom metro station was a pleasant two blocks away.

Two blocks in the other direction, the shops at the Watergate offered a Safeway grocery, a CVS pharmacy, a liquor store and several eateries. We bought supplies for breakfast, pastries, late-night snacks and Chinese take-out during our trip.

The pillow-top mattress was very comfortable, and we had no complaints about the maid service.

We got a Washington Post in the morning, and the room had cable with movie channels on TVs in the sitting area and the bedroom so we could relax after some very full days.

After reading traveler reviews I expected the furniture to be a bit worn, and that was OK with us. The corners of the tables were nicked, for example, and one set of closet doors didn't slide easily.

But everything was very clean, and we got the convenient location and space we were looking for without killing our budget.

The front desk handled any requests we made efficiently and courteously.

It is a university neighborhood, but I heard party noise only one night of the seven nights we stayed, and it wasn't awful.

Biggest complaint: There was no vent in the bathroom.

We ate at the Notti Bianci Italian restaurant one night. The food was good and the service fine, but it was overpriced and our waiter was snooty. I guess he preferred to serve Kennedy Center patrons instead of tourists.
