We drove to Washington D. C. for a weekend visit to take in the Monuments, Memorials and Museums. We researched all of the downtown hotels by location and chose the Marriott at Metro Center which seemed to be one of the most convenient and affordable. We usually stay at 4 star hotels such as the Four Seasons or The Ritz Carltons. We were surprised and extremely happy with our stay at the Marriott at Metro Center. This Hotel was in walking distance of the Smithsonian Museums, White House, Monuments and the Metro. The staff members were amazing and were very personable and helpful. In fact, Erick Mendizabel, Concierge, came through with lots of suggestions, and when we had problems figuring out how to use the Metro, he personally walked us to the Metro Station to assist us in purchasing our Metro fare passes, this was over the top service!!! Jay at the front desk was always smiling and just happy to greet you after your day. Jay and Erick were always ready to suggest places to eat and advise whether or not to walk or take the taxi or Metro. So I guess you can tell the service was more than we expected. The hotel was secure and safe. There were employees positioned at all entrances and security was stationed at the elevators. Finally, the hotel, is being slightly remodeled, but you won't even notice. The only reason we knew about the remodel was that we were told by an employee and there was a sign posted. The hotel facility is just perfect. The hotel was immaculate and so was our room. We had two double beds which were super cozy and our room and bathroom were spotless. The gym had all the right equipment and the pool looked relaxing and calm. The number one reason we stayed at this hotel was the location. You can walk to Chinatown, the Verizon Center and all of the historic sites. Multiple highly rated restaurants in Fodors and Fromers are in walking distance from the hotel. You can walk to Tosca, Caucus Room , The Occidental Grill, Clydes, The Old Ebbitt Grill Room, Matchbox and so many more. We were recommended this hotel by a friend and we will now highly recommend this hotel to you. For the price, amentities, service and location this hotel can't be beat, if you want to see it all and do it all you should stay at the Marriott at Metro Center.

“Nice hotel - fantastic work out room”

Marriott at Metro Center

5 of 5 stars
Greenville, SC
Feb 18, 2008

The Marriott Metro Center is an outstanding Marriott in Washington DC. The rooms are up to date and confortable - nice beds, high quality sheets. Good lighting in rooms. After you fork over $9.95, internet is unlimited as is local and long distance calling within the US.

The location is great - on the same block as a major metro stop and across the street from Macy's and near other shopping, dining. You will have no trouble going places from here whether by cab, by metro or on foot.

Staff - nice, courteous. Room service breakfast - good if pricey.

Best feature - the fantastic workout room. Head and shoulders better than the average hotel with weight machines, free weights and many cardio machines all with their own TV. Water purifier, towels. Very clean.

Highly recommended.

“Good Location”

We took our 2 young kids there to support my sister-in-law running in the Marathon.

Location: The location is great. There's a hop-on hop-off double-decker bus stop right in front of the hotel. (The ticket is $32 per adult for 2 days. It's a wonderful tour, it showed us the whole Washington D.C. in 2.5 hours.) The Metro Centre subway station and the Macy's department store are just around the corner. It was also perfect for the Marine Corps Marathon as we're able to walk to the 12 mile checkpoint and cheered for my sister-in-law. There aren't too many restaurants near the hotel though. With 2 young kids, we didn't want to go too far so we ended up having both dinners in the hotel restaurants, which are not bad and reasonably priced.

Facility: The swimming pool is nothing grand but good enough for my young kids to have fun. The gym seems quite spacious and well equipped.

Service: Cookies and lemonade are offered to guests in the front desk / lobby, it was great especially when we arrived tired and thirsty. But they don't refill it at night, if you arrive late & thirsty, you can buy a large bottle of water in the souvenir shop for $3 (the one in the room was $5). I called housekeeping for a crib and they came set it up almost immediately. All the staff greet us happily. The only thing is,the Metro Grill restaurant seemed to be understaff for dinner.

Price: We stayed Fri & Sat night and paid $209 /nite + tax (with a sumptuous breakfast) which is pretty good for the nice room decoration (though not big and no view) and convenient location. I booked through the hotel website. It's funny how they keep changing the prices every few hours, just like the stock market. I was lucky to finally get hold of this reasonable price.

I'll definitely stay at this hotel again for my future trips to Washington D.C.

“Exceeds Expectations”

Marriott at Metro Center

5 of 5 stars
London, United Kingdom
Oct 23, 2007

Was traveling to DC on business and due to IMF meetings my traditional preferences hotels (Mandarin and Four Seasons) were booked. I was a bit reluctant before entering the Marriott - but my expectations (a marriott is a marriott right??? WRONG!) were exceed. The staff was exceptional- professional and friendly from the first moment. Even though we arrived at 10AM rooms were available. My room was well positioned, very clean, and modern (save for the bathroom where the tub could use a little updating). There was also a small empty fridge in the room - which might not be of use to business travellers - but a positive for those travelling with friends/family. Location was central for those on business or touring the city - walking, taxi, or via the metro.
The best part of the stay was the gym - often something so hard to find when travelling on business. The facility was truly state of the art - plenty of machines (about 10-12 cardio machines in addition to a good number of weight machines), all new, and with great personal entertainment systems.
I will def consider the Marriott along side - if not before my other preferences the next time I am in DC.

“Nice hotel”

Marriott at Metro Center

Oct 8, 2007

The Marriot Metro Center is a nice hotel in an excellent location. It's located about 1/2 block from a huge Macy's, about 2 1/2 blocks from an H&M, and dozens of restaurants and other shops. The area is perfect for walking around and pretty safe as well.

The hotel has a restaurant on the 2nd floor -- had the breakfast here, it was alright. Nothing too fantastic. There is also a gym available onsite.

Slight downside was that internet access cost $9.95 per day. However, wireless was free from the business center.

The hotel was fine (but overpriced) for traveling families and vacationers. I would recommend a different hotel for business travelers, as this one wasn't really up to par.
