“Normal Marriott, very pricey”

Marriott at Metro Center

I stayed two nights at this Marriott for work. It was chosen by the arrangers of a class I was taking, and I believe they chose it for its location near the metro station. It is directly above the DC metro and you only need to walk a very short distance to get to the entrance to the metro from this hotel.

Pros: The location was great. You can walk to the White House, Old Post Office, the Mall, and all the other metro DC attractions, plus you can take the metro everywhere. The beds were wonderful, soft and fluffy like you get at most Marriotts. The gift shop was nice and had lots of unique things in it. They have a Starbucks in the lobby. The freebies in the room are high quality Bath and Body Works Orange Ginger scented shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

Cons: There is no parking at this hotel, and valet is $30.00 a day. You really have no choice. There is only a small pull-up area for your car for valet. The location on 12th and G is a little hard to drive to in rush hour - it took us an hour to drive there from Bethesda at 5:30 pm. The bellman will take your bags up to your room regardless of whether you want him to or not - I had one small carry on bag, but he insisted, and then when I got to my room, I only had a $20.00 bill, and he told me he had change and gave me change for the $20 so that I could tip him. I did not feel comfortable with this since he was in my room at this point, he had let the door close and basically I felt I had no choice but to tip him. My co-worker ate at the restaurant in the hotel, and it took them an HOUR to serve him a sandwhich. He said they apologized, but stil it was excessive. My coworker also did not see the sign on the bottle of Fiji water they have in the room and was charged $5.00 for it.

Overall, I perfer the Crystal City Marriotts over this one since they have better restaurants and parking options, and are also close to the metro.

“Great Hotel”

Marriott at Metro Center

3 of 5 stars
Chesapeake, VA
Apr 29, 2008

We stayed at the Marriott Metro Center April 26 and totally enjoyed our stay. This hotel is located within walking distance to attractions and many places to eat. The DC Metro is right next to the hotel with is very convient for getting around DC. Very kid friendly hotel, great breakfest buffet, clean comfortable rooms. I would truly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in DC.

“nice place, but found bed bug”

Marriott at Metro Center

2 of 5 stars
california
Apr 29, 2008

nice hotel and room was ok, good location. but on the last day, when i was packing up i found a bed bug on my pillow. the little [--] was alive and walking around. i squashed him and called the front desk. at first i don't think they understood that it was a bedbug that i was talking about, but they came to check.

when one of the employees saw it and realized what it was, they took it seriously, apologized, moved me into another room (even though it was my last day, i kept my stuff there in the new room until i was ready to fully check out) and when i went back to my old room, they had an exterminator there already.

“Perfect location”

Marriott at Metro Center

5 of 5 stars
Westchester County, NY
Apr 20, 2008

We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) who stayed here in April on our annual Washington trip. In reading the reviews, I had high expectations and was not disappointed.

Pros
1) Location, Location, Location! - The hotel is walking distance to the National Mall, the White House, Washington Monument , museums etc. It's in a nicer area and has several stores and restaurants within walking distance which is a huge plus.
2) Pool - great because it rained one day we were there and the kids had a blast in the pool
3) Rooms are clean - and were large enough. We stayed at the Sheraton 4 corners 1 year and the rooms over there were the size of a shoebox. The rooms at the Marriott were of a decent size. The bathroom was very clean and larger that other Washington Dc hotels I've been to
4) Breakfast Buffet was good and had plenty of choices - eggs made to order, fruit, yogurt, french toast, quiche, cereal, bacon, bagels etc..
5) Nice staff - they even allowed us to check out late which allowed us another day to enjoy the museums

Cons
1) This is not a "real" con but when we pulled up to the hotel, there was no one there to tell us what to do with our car. There is no "hotel parking", it's all valet, but we were slightly confused when we pulled up. There was a guy there but he he didn't approach us until after I got out of the car, walked in the hotel and inquired with the front desk.
2) Breakfast Buffet can be expensive. Our rate came with breakfast coupons but I saw what the bill would have been if we didn't have coupons and it would have been $50 for 2 adults and 2 kids (1 of whom is a toddler)

All in all, of all the hotels I stayed in in DC, this one was my favorites mainly due to its location. I even liked it better than the Sofitel for traveling with my family because of the many things to do in the area and because my kids enjoyed the pool.

“Terrific staff, lovely staff”

Marriott at Metro Center

5 of 5 stars
Dayton, Ohio

We stayed here in mid-March for 3 days -- loved the location and the staff was top-deck. We truly loved this hotel and felt at home and wanted at this property.

As others said, the rooms, although lovely, are not huge but suited our lodging needs (2 adults, 1 son). There is a Macy's across the street (in case you forget your swimsuits as we did). Metro stop is right outside the main entry.

A nice, safe area. Good breakfast buffett.

Will definitely stay here again should our travel take us to this area again.
