“Great location, No A/C”

I like the location of this hotel. It's about 0.3 miles from the Dupont Circle Metro Station. The neighborhood is mostly residential with a spattering of embassies and stores. There's a Safeway grocery not far from the hotel. The hotel room is like a mini-apartment with a kitchenette complete with counter top range, microwave, refrigerator, and toaster. They also provide you with pots, pan, cooking utensils, dinnerware, silverware, and glasses. If you don't feel like eating out, you can simply buy groceries at Safeway and cook them at the hotel. I also liked the Tempurpedic mattress...it was different but I'm not sure if I would like one for myself. The staff was somewhat helpful but not very courteous. The only downside to my stay was the lack of A/C...it wasn't working and it can get stuffy in the room. A fan would have been helpful. Thank goodness the windows open partially. Also, wireless internet is only available in the lobby. If you want to use the free internet in the room, make sure you bring your own ethernet cord.

“Quiet hotel in lovely area”

This is a fairly small hotel in a lovely area of DC - embassies, tree-lined streets, great restaurants, lots of activity. The hotel is quiet and comfortable. We had a nice stay. One drawback - practically no parking. You have to park at a garage some four blocks away. Although the staff recommended the garage, they did not relate the garage’s hours or rules. When we checked out Sunday morning, I discovered the garage was closed on Sundays and had to spend almost an hour phoning the garage, trying to get someone to open it up so we could depart. When I went back to the hotel to complain to the manager that the staff should relate this information, the manager made me wait again – leaving me feeling they were not very responsive or concerned.

“Loved the Carlyle”

The Carlyle Suites

4 of 5 stars
New York
Feb 17, 2008

I booked with some trepidation, as some reviewers said the place was filthy, while others raved about it. I now have to join the "rave" category. I just spent 2 nights there at $99.00/night for a 420 sq. ft. suite, including a cute little kitchen. It was clean, comfortable, the bathroom was small but functional. I loved the Tempurpedic mattress. In fact, I think I'm going to have to buy one. I had the best 2 nights sleep that I can remember. The only drawback was the mediocre buffet breakfast, and when I got the bill, they had already added on a 15% service charge, and had the nerve to still have a blank line for me to add on a tip on my credit card bill.

“Great Dupont Circle Hotel”

The Carlyle Suites

5 of 5 stars
Orlando, FL

The hotel is located about 5 blocks from the Red Line Dupont Circle Metro Station. It is surrounded by many embassies. The hotel staff was nice, and most of them spoke English. It is relatively small and there is a bar with a continental breakfast, but not really a restaurant. You will definately want to take the walk down to the Jury Hotel on New Hampshire & Dupont Circle and eat at Dupont Grille.

The rooms have a kitchenette - but you really don't want to cook in there - it is smaller than my closet at home and you can't fit much into the mini frig and there isn't a oven - just two burners on a stove and the microwave.

It is a quiet place - we stayed over New Year's Eve and didn't get woken up - so it is a great place for small kids. Also they allow pets - large ones. We saw someone with a standard poodle and a lab owner.

Also - bring a Ethernet cable if you want access to the high speed Internet - we were able to get onto the wireless in one spot, but that was only because we were on the second floor right above the business center.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The location, large rooms, cleanliness, quiet
    • Disliked — No good wines at the bar - not really a full-service restaurant
