“B+ for the Hay-Adams”

The Hay-Adams is certainly a Small Luxury Hotel, but when judged at that luxury level, I found some faults. Room size and general amenities are at an expected level. Bathroom cabinetry was clumsy and towel hanging space poorly designed. Room door was a poor fit and allowed the glaring light from corridor in on 3 sides, and I could only cover the base of the door really. Our room, at rear, had no view as expected but we did not expect the noise from delivery trucks in the laneway from 0430. We were on Floor 3.

I do not like the bar refrigerator that electronically registers an item used when it is moved - and I wanted to move several items. However, we sorted the bill at the end when it showed 10 items consumed. Good position in Washington. Concierge helpful.

“Old Fashioned Luxery”

Beautiful boutique hotel - amazing location right across the park from the White House. Quiet area, with churches and trees and flowers. Room was decorated in soft whites and fresh materials. Service was kind and friendly. Highly, highly recommend staying here.

“Discussing about perfection”

Perfection is an elusive idea, so that one could always discuss about details diverging from it. This dutifully said in advance, I’ pleased to report that every detail during our stay at Hay-Adams in Washington spoiled us in the most desirable way , so that looking for something less than ideal would be a useless waste of time. Besides a warm and efficient welcome into a room breathtakingly facing the White House and immaculately kept , we enjoyed perfect assistance by the concierge and staff , as well as excellent kitchen and wine at the restaurant, where Thomas and Milon spontaneously celebrated our son’s birthday in an unforgettable way. The atmosphere was overall softened and relaxing to the highest concept we have about elegance.

“Hay-Adams is quite a treat!”

It was thrilling to introduce our ten year-old daughter to Washington, D.C. with a stay at a such a memorable hotel. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and the air was chilly, but the ambience was warm and inviting.
Breakfast was leisurely and abundant. It may have been obvious to those around us that we were just tourists, but we never really felt out of place among the "suits" briskly carrying on business around us.
Our room was comfortable and roomy, but without a view, allowing our "not-so-deep" pockets to experience a little of what it's like for those who don't care about costs.
A special thank you is in order to the housekeeping staff. Those ladies do a wonderfully thorough job. Turn down service was new to us and seemed to our daughter to be the work of angels bearing soft slippers and warm robes, (not to mention the chocolates).
I can recommend this hotel to anyone who can pay for it without going into debt. To those who aspire, I say save your pennies until you can pay in full, then enjoy a couple of days at the Hay-Adams and feel rich in the memories of your stay.

“a pinnacle of elegance and gracious hospitality”

The Hay-Adams

New York City

Three nights at this superlative location, at the height of cherry-blossom season, made for the nicest hotel stay I've ever had, anywhere. (Full disclosure: we were the guests of very generous family members so I don't know what the cost was.) The welcome and amenities were exceptional, the staff genuinely cheerful and eager to help with advice. And the room, even though it looked out on the "garden" courtyard, was beautiful, quiet, well-lighted, and comfortable. Breakfast in the dining room is predictably pricey, but there is a Starbucks (open seven days) a block-and-a-half away. Folks staying here probably don't take the Metro, but it's an easy walk to the Farragut and McPherson stations. Because the hotel is relatively small and there is only one entrance, we did encounter a private event spilling out into the hotel lobby. Also, the clientele at the downstairs bar isn't as refined as that of the hotel itself. Those quibbles aside, this is a truly top-of-the-line, standard-setting property.
