“Over inflated opinion of itself”

Willard InterContinental Washington

This is a generous 2/5 based on location and not much else.

The expectations from a five star "institution" hotel is something special but the Willard was a real let down.

The location is great, the lobby areas look fantastic but it appears that the hotel is trading on image and not service.

Check in was functional without being particulalry welcoming but only one of two bags was brought up to the room and it took several phone calls and trips backwards and forwards to get the issue resolved.

Rooms are fairly comfortable but the level of noise from corridors and adjoining rooms is unaccepatable for a high end hotel. It also niggles that simple things like ice machines and express check out were not working.

The whole experience was compounded by staff that gave no indictaions of caring about guests but gave off a well refined air of pomposity.

For significantly less money there are many better places to stay in Washington so on the next visit I will defintely chosse somewhere else

“Amazing, absolutely amazing.”

Willard InterContinental Washington

What can you say about the Willard? The sense of history and luxury that are had here is almost beyond comparison. The rooms are large and well appointed. It is centrally located for just about anything that you’d want to see and do in DC.

The hotel has been around since before the civil war and has hosted some key figures in history. This sense in history appeals to me so I made it a point to stay here.

The lobby is grand and sports the seal of each state in its ceiling. The bar is unique in that it is round – thus the name “The Round Robin.” While several of Washington’s finest restaurants are close by, you will also not go wrong by eating at the hotel. I typically avoid hotel restaurants but that would be a mistake here. The Willard Room is a wonderful fine dining experience. I wasn’t as enamored with the Café du Parc but when compared to other hotel restaurants it was superior.

The only negative aspect that I could think of is that the Willard hosts some important people. A Saudi prince was staying the same week that I was so security was a bit tight. It was tolerable and not overbearing.

“I just can't say enough!”

Willard InterContinental Washington

May 7, 2008

My second stay at the Willard was just as perfect as the first.... it can be a bit expensive, so if you are paying for it yourself, maybe save it for a "special event". But the rooms are lovely, extremely comfortable beds, very clean, and great staff. I can't wait to return!

“Beautiful historical hotel”

Willard InterContinental Washington

May 3, 2008

We visited DC for the first time on President's weekend for my husband birthday. Chose Willard hotel based on its location (almost next door to White House and central to everything) and luxurious details. These two things didn't disappoint us at all. As Ambassador members, we were upgraded to a great view room on the fifth floor. The room was quite ordinary but spacious and overlooked the Mall. We had breakfast in our room every morning. Our table was set up by the window and we enjoyed the view a lot. The food and presentation were good as well. The service, however, was lacking professionalism and was even rude at times. Front desk, belldesk, phone communications. Certainly, not up to the Intercontinental standards. With that said, we enjoyed our stay in Willard immensely. It was a pleasure coming back to our room after all that walking we did in DC. The bed was very comfortable with soft and crispy linens. Would come back there any time. Greatly recommended.

“The "Willard Wins"”

Willard InterContinental Washington

5 of 5 stars
St. Louis
Apr 30, 2008

What can you say about the Willard?

Location, location, location!! You can, and must, walk to and from all that Washington has to offer! One of the BEST locations and hotels in the Mall area!!

The History of the Willard tells it’s story!
Public areas are elegant and exude the decadence of times past. One of the most storied hotels in America.

This is one of the best “service” hotels I’ve visited in some time. Concierge service was superb, front desk .. great!

Our room was excellent, though our view wasn’t (but note, that you don’t spend too much daylight time IN the room). Well appointed with all that you might need. Truly a wonderful place to be after a LONG day of D.C. wandering. Comfortable in every respect.

We were disappointed with the Café du Parc lounge/ restaurant. The service here was poor overall. Drinks outside (afternoon) were a chore to obtain and breakfast in the morning was slow and required my constant requests for a coffee refill.

BUT… I would absolutely return the Willard. This is truly is an American Landmark!
