“Exceeded Expectations”

Dusit Thani Hotel

Australia

I'd like to know the identity of Food and Beverage Officer so I can poach him/her back to Australia. Quality staff who are genuinely eager to please. In room fridge was a little old and lacked the ability to keep temperature at 3 degrees Celsius. Decor on common areas is of 5 star standard. I stayed in a Dusit Club Room which was 4 star standard. It has all the makings of one of the best hotels in Thailand, just needs some minor tweaking in some not so critical areas. Overall experience was very good, not exceptional, enough to keep me coming back.

“Great Dusit”

Stayed at the Dusit in May 08 on a trip to HH. and wanted to remain there! The atmosphere was great and the range of catering available was second to non and I have stayed in some good ones!
Lunch at D, Sens was a great experience and the Benjarong was super (If a Little too well air conditioned) Check in and out was as smooth as silk and the room was well equipped . I believe that you could have arrived in what you stood up in and wanted for nothing such was the level of care!
Close to Lumphini park for an early morning stroll before a marvelous variety of breakfast delights for all cultures and palates--High energy or slimmers specials, its all there and spottlessly presented!
Try the pastries they are blissfull Well done to the patissiere and the talented team responsible.
Plunge into the shock of BKK. and then retreat into the calm and tranquillity of the Dusit!!!
Thanks to all for a memorable stay!
I will be back!!!!!

“I keep returning”

Dusit Thani Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Birmingham UK

I have stayed at the Dusit Thani on many occasions over the years, including twice so far this year. I have stayed in all the room categories from the "standard" in the old tower at the back through to the Thai Heritage Suite.

The reason I keep returning is that the hotel is Thai owned and, although senior management is Western, the hotel is run on to Thai principles. Some may see this as "old fashioned" but, to my mind it sets it apart from the corporate cookie cutter hotels on Sukhumvit.

I think the previous reviewer must have had a room in the old tower at the back of the property. To be fair these are not the best of rooms and are somewhat disappointing given the quality of the rest of the hotel. My recommendation is the Dusit Grand room in the main tower. These rooms used to be called Landmark Rooms and have been completely renovated with modern decor. They are made up of two normal sized rooms and comprise a living/working room, a bedroom, a huge bathroom with separate shower and a large dressing area.

There is a wide choice of excellent restaurants and bars. The pool, though small, is a calm oasis and well insulated from the traffic noise from Rama IV.

I stayed at the DT over New Year this year and had an unfortunate experience with the service at breakfast one day. The management went out of their way to apologise and ensure that I was adequately recompensed. Any hotel can have problems. What marks out a good hotel and good management is the way in which the guests who suffer from the problems are dealt with. In my opinion the DT more than fulfils this test.

My next stay was in February and it was absolutely perfect. I am also about to book another stay this summer.

Criticisms? - service poolside can be incredibly slow; the buffet restaurant on the lower ground floor feels a bit sterile as it is really just part of a passageway linking the lower lobby to the side door.

“The Dusit Thani's glory years have passed”

Dusit Thani Hotel

3 of 5 stars
San Jose, California, USA
May 17, 2008

The Dusit Thani is an outdated 4-star hotel masquerading as a classy 5-star hotel. It has a dated 70's appearance on the outside (with a facade of stark materials and sharp angles) and Thai traditional style on the inside (with the furniture bearing ornate wood carvings).

The standard rooms make the most of a small space, but the bathroom bears the brunt of this economy. It's tiny compared to other hotels in this class, and the door doesn't even clear the bath rug on the floor. The hand-held shower mount is at waist level, too low to be used as a hands-free shower. (A true 5-star hotel should have a separate bath and shower.) Finally, the toilet uses an inconveniently located push button that requires an inordinate amount of force to push and to hold -- and even then, the toilet doesn't flush completely.

Other omissions include the lack of an iron and ironing board in the room. There's also no ice bucket (although that means that there is probably also no ice machine; I didn't check). On the plus side, the air conditioning is excellent, complimentary bottles of water are replaced daily, and each room has a balcony that offers a 180-degree view of the Bangkok skyline.

My room rate included wired Internet access and breakfast (buffet or table service). The wired Internet service was fast enough, but it logged me out automatically every few hours, even if I was actively using it. The breakfast buffet had a good selection of western and Japanese food, but, surprisingly, no traditional Thai dishes. Some food (such as the sushi) looked old and unappetizing, and on one of my visits, the orange juice dispenser went unfilled during my entire time in the dining room. On another visit, the coffee I was offered never arrived at my table.

The location of the Dusit Thani is unbeatable, with subway and Sky Train connections out front, Lumphini Park across the street, and Patpong around the corner. But given the average quality of the room and the service, the Dusit Thani falls short of what a 5-star luxury hotel experience should be.

“Oasis in a city of madness!”

Dusit Thani Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

We had the pleasure of finishing our far east holiday with 3 days in the Dusit Thani, Bangkok. (First time visitors to the city).

To go to a city like Bangkok you need somewhere to retreat to after the hectic, crazy lifestyle which this city forces upon you. The Dusit Thani was our "retreat" and I am so glad I booked it. Returning from a day in the city and being met with the ice cold wall of air when you walk through the grand doors is heavenly. And when the hotel doors close you truly are in another world, one of quiet luxury.

As someone who is not used to 5 star hotels and tends to accept most hotels (be they good or bad) as part of the privelige of getting to enjoy a new city, for the first time ever we found a hotel which actually made our holiday!

The D.T. is situated over from Lumphini Park (great views from rooms and rooftop bar/restaurant) and is next to the Sala Daeng BTS station so is very convenient for getting around the newer part of the city.

Rooms were great, spotlessly clean, powerful showers, all required amenities.

The service of the staff in the hotel was quite simply magnificent, every request was treated with a thoroughly professional attitude, from bellboys to desk staff, cleaners to bar staff, chauffeur's to swimming pool attendants.

Ate in two restaurants during our stay, the Benjarong Thai which was fabulous and Hamilton's steak house (equally fab,far too much food ! ).

Had the pleasure of meeting the hotel manager (Danny) one night in the bar and had a great time listening to his stories of the history of this "grand old Bangkok lady" and all the famous guests who stayed there . A man who is genuinely proud of his hotel and goes that little bit further to ensure his guests have a truly memorable stay.

If ever I find myself in Bangkok again I can safely say I will have no hestation in booking the Dusit Thani hotel.
