We stayed at The Davis for two nights at the start of our honeymoon in Phuket and Ko Phi Phi. After such a long trip from California--on 4 planes--we thought it would be nice to stop off in Bangkok for a bit before continuing on. We arrived at the hotel at1:30am after a very long trip and the staff on duty was very nice and accomodating. Almost too much, the bellboy who brought our bags into the room sat on the bed with us while he went over a map of Bangkok asking us what we planned on doing. He tried repeatedly to get us to book a taxi to the Grand Palace the next morning, we did say we wanted to go there but after such a long trip we weren't ready to commit to a time and weren't even sure if we wanted to do much of anything but lying around on the first day of our honeymoon. We finally convinced him to leave us alone so we could relax.
The room itself was quite nice. We stayed in the corner wing, which doesn't seem as nice as the main hotel. The bathroom was great with a large shower and separate tub that peeked out to the bedroom through a large window. The only issue was the shower head over the tub went from scorching hot to freezing cold every 10 seconds or so.
The breakfast buffet was very nice, I don't understand the other complaints I've read. IF a hotel serves breakfast in America it usually just consists of juice and toast so the plentiful buffet at The Davis was excellent, saved us the time and money of going out to breakfast.
However, when we finally decided we would make it to the Grand Palace we asked the hotel to call us a taxi since we thought it would be the best way. The taxi driver they called for us insisted on taking us to a tailor and a gem shop which was "on the way" to the Grand Palace. It was a little pushy and a waste of my time, but we could've been more adamant in saying no. And I saw this same taxi driver the next morning in the hotel waiting for a fare so they obviously have some relationship with him. Other than that, the hotel was nice enough. The pool looked fabulous, though we never made it there. And we didn't get a chance to eat at any of the restaurants in the Hotel. For the short time we had in Bangkok and at The Davis, I'd say the hotel was mediocre.
