I was able to stay at the Meridien twice within a 2 week timeframe.
First stay
I arrived at HKG airport and took the Airport Express to HK Station. There is a direct hotel shuttle to/from HK Station every hour. For 2 people, it was 45 HKD. A great deal since very people take it and there was plenty of room to handle my luggage.
I checked in for 4 nights. The lobby is smallish but nicely decorated. As a SPG Platinum, they informed me I was supposed to automatically get the Deluxe Ocean View room but were sold out so received a regular room. However, I did receive the bennies associated with a Deluxe Ocean View which included complimentary buffet breakfast, complimentary drinks at PSI and Podium, complimentary pressing of 1 suit/2 articles of clothing, and some other percentages off. In addition, they gave me a 50% off card for the in-house restaurants. As others have mentioned, the complimentary drinks INCLUDE a whole variety of alcoholic drinks off a special menu. Unbelievable!
My regular room was fine. I had a partial ocean view with the side of the mountain. On top of the mountain were some condos so I had to keep my blinds half closed. There was a Platinum welcome gift of some chocolate strawberries and red wine. The desk area was well appointed with the desk itself being the newish Italian glass models that swing out. Interestingly, there was a a/v jack by the desk that could project onto the flat screen tv. The bed was very comfortable and the washroom does have a see-through glass wall. However, other people may not have found the switch in the washroom that lowers a blind over the glass wall. The bathroom only has a shower area and no bathtub.
The restaurant buffet was superb, like all other ones in HK. Service was excellent in both the restaurant and PSI/Podium. Unfortunately, I didn't try the other in-house restaurants or eat at the mall across the street. There did seem to be some fairly decent restaurants.
I chose to get to/from "downtown" using public transit. When you walk out the entrance, take a right and walk half a block. You've just entered into a large bus terminal. As others have mentioned, take the M49 to HK Station or 69X to Causeway Bay. The M49 is truly a public bus so takes a long while in rush hour. Once, it took over 1 hour. In true rush hour, there are some variations to the M49 (M69X, X49) that skip some stops. The light bus (69X) is a great option that costs about 3 HKD more but you get there MUCH faster. Returning from Causeway Bay on the light bus is a bit more difficult as there is usually a queue.
Second stay
This time, I only stayed for 1 night and received the Deluxe Ocean View room. In my opinion, it's a little smaller than the regular room but the view is incredible. You've got at least a 180 degree panorama of the ocean. The bed is against the bathroom wall so there isn't the glass wall problem. However, the bathroom has both a bathtub and shower stall. Problem is, the shower stall was quite a bit smaller than a regular room and I didn't use the bathtub. The rest of the furnishings are similar to a regular room.
Overall, I quite like this hotel since I prefer modern hotels and it's one of the newest in HK. One poster didn't like how everything had a charge but, seriously, what other 5* hotels don't do the same? As it's not my first time in HK, I quite liked how it was removed from the craziness. If someone is coming for the first time to HK, this hotel may not be the best choice.
I would and will definitely return.
