“Poor atitude of duty manager”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

Stayed there for two separate 4 night periods. Had booked my stay via their own company email months ago. We had no problems with first stay period, however on return from trip to Bangkok, found our triple occupancy room had been given away to others by duty manager "Eric", who himself needs a refresher course in customer service. Felt his atitude was very poor. His overiding aim was to do his job fast but with no consideration for customers. Finally allocated a room with 2 beds and had to wait 20 minutes for a rollaway bed. This arrived but the mattress was so uncomfortable that it needed to be changed. The next rollaway had a blood stained mattress protector which if we hadn't complained, they would have laid sheets on and tried to pass its stain away. Management tried to pass over this problem by giving us free breakfast, however this was not worth the money. By enlarge the worst food I've seen for a long time.

The room was much smaller than that of first stay and not worth the money especially for the money I paid expecting a slightly bigger room which we needed as it was for 3 adults.

The hotel itself is about 15 minutes walk from mongkok, the shuttle was very punctual and takes about 45min cycle through hotel, mongkok , tsim tsai tsui and then hotel. The airport express shuttle "K6" was a excellent way to get to the hotel and airport and the stop is right outside the hotel. Allowed us to check in at Kowloon airport express station and reduce lugging luggage ourselves to the airport.

Hong Kong is full of great places to visit and great food, so forget paying for breakfast, take the shuttle to mongkok where food is cheaper, tastier and very varied.

“no problems whatsoever”

We had none of the problems experienced elsewhere. The staff were fine - nothing was a problem. On one part of our journey we arrived early in the morning. At other hotels we may well have been told to push off until the afternoon but here the room was ready after just an hour. The free shuttle bus to the harbour area was very good and regular. The pool on the roof is well worth a visit. The hotel is on a busy main road (Waterloo Road) in mid-Kowloon but we found this to be an advantage, because we found some excellent eateries nearby that obviously aren't visited by many tourists. Really friendly people, though. And infinitely cheaper than eating at the hotel. The hotel bar was OK, but expensive, and a bit desperate, with fashion TV playing endlessly, and full of bored-looking tourists.
No problems with noise, even though our room faced onto the busy street.

“Great Hotel and fantastic value”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

What a great find ! Hong Kong hotels are expensive and have small rooms so when we arrived at The Metropark Kowloon and checked into our Club Room we were pleasantly surprised. The room was large by Hong Kong standards with a double bed, 2 bedside tables, desk, fridge, large flat screen TV armchair and there was still enough room for 2 big suitcases to lie opne on the floor. The room wasn't giant but plenty big enough, and I guess you could say that it was massive by Hong Kong standards. The bathroom was large but with no bath, however, the shower cubicle was more than double size and if you prefer showers as we do then it could be condisered a bonus.

The room was newly decorated and looked great with all expected amenties. The hotel website was the cheapest site I could find on the net for the Metropark with rooms only costing £50 GBP /night for a standard room so we upgraded to a Club Room for £25 GBP extra per night. This gave us a high room floor, complimentary breakfast and free drinks and snacks in the Club lounge between 5-7pm. The snacks consisted of sandwishes etc, but the bar was fully stocked with premium brands all free!!
Breakfast was great. An extensive buffet that all tasted great.

The location of the hotel was OK, but not fantastic. About 5 min walk from Nathan Rd, but once on Nathan Rd you found yourself quite far along away from the Harbour. The MTR train station was about 7min walk , with The Peninsula Hotel/ Avenue of The Stars/ Water front a brisk 30min walk. Don't let these walking times put you off though as taxis pull in to the hotel pick up zone and are very cheap - about £5 GBP to the water front. When you compare the price of this hotel and find that it was easily half that of its competitors and then rate the service and comfort provided you would be hard pushed to beat it for overall performance. If you are coming to Hong Kong and don't have an endless budget you have got to try this great Hotel - I can't recommend it enough.

“Very Disappointed”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

2 of 5 stars
Cape Town, South Africa

We arrived at the Hotel after a long journey (Cape Town, Jhb and then Hong Kong) so we were pretty exhausted when we checked in. Upon checking in we were told that our room was not ready but that it would be ready within an hour. We accepted that and decided to walk around for that hr to pass the time. We came back to be told that the room was still not ready. We then told them that they said it would be ready, and to this they said that they had found a room to give to us. Our luggage was taken to the room to be found that two very single beds was given to us. I asked the staff member that why had we been given two single beds when we had booked a double. He said that this was one of the better rooms. I then took this up with Erik Mak (the Manager on duty) at the time to be told that it had not been booked as a double. I didnt want to argue at the time as I didnt have the paperwork in front of me. I then went to the room and found all the correspondence that proved that a double had been booked. He then said that the hotel was fully booked. I told him that this hotel had been booked long in advance and we should have been told that this was not available. He also told me that the communication that he received via the international agents did not say anything about a double room. I asked him to show me this email to which he did. It definately did not state a double room but the confirmation from Thompsons Travel definately stated a double room. I then said that he should have checked upon us checking in, whether we wanted single beds seeing that we were a couple. We only go away once a year and this to us is like another honeymoon. Under no circumstances could two people sleep in that single beds. They were genuinely single beds and nothing more. I received a letter of apology from the hotel once getting back to SA but that did not alter the fact that our holiday was spoiled by this arrangement.
The hotel itself was clean, breakfast was OKAY. Enough fruit to eat if you didnt want anything else, but the lack of English by the staff was bad. If you wanted them to bring you a fried egg, you had to FIND a staff member that actually understood you.
The room could do with a bit more dolling up. At least a duvet to pretty the bed up. The hotel as other people have stated is very cold - the airconditioning seems to be set at a very cold temperature. Tours via the agent at the Hotel was very expensive so we actually got an itinerary and did all of the tours on our own. Worked out cheaper and we could stay at the places for whatever time period we wanted to. My boyfriend used the gym but two of the equipment was not working.
Would I stay at this hotel again - no (due to the fact in which the complaint was handled). We took no photos of the hotel, as what you see from the travellers it is no different.

“Wish we had found this hotel years ago!”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

London, United Kingdom

We are frequent travelers to Hong Kong and have been there at least 12 times before. This time we were in Hong Kong for three nights on a stopover.

We usually stay at the YMCA Salisbury, but wanted a slightly bigger room for a comparable price.

The Metropark Kowloon has much larger rooms than the average hotel in Kowloon (and for this price). We stayed on the 18th floor, and although the furnishings were a bit on the tired side, everything was clean and comfortable.

We liked that the hotel was not right in the centre of TST, where all the tourists usually like to hang. I don't understand all the comments about the hotel being out of the way, with the MTR and buses being so quick, efficient, and air-conditioned, it really wasn't all that difficult getting around.

We never took the complimentary hotel shuttle. Instead, we took the 7 and 271 bus to TST whenever we wanted to get the ferry to the Island.

We were quite happy to eat and explore around the neighbourhood as well.

You get a copy of the South China Morning Post every morning.

I cannot comment on the restaurants, gym, nor swimming pool, as we didn't use them.

All the staff were professional and pleasant.

The only niggle was that on the last night, we could hear our neighbours talking quite loudly. I don't know if this is because the walls are thin, or the people next door were extra shouty.

Still, I would definitely stay here again.
