“Old World Charm”

The Ambassador Ajanta

I read a few reviews just before I left for this hotel and was very, very worried about what I would expect. I was traveling with my in-laws and 1 year old and my wife.

The airport transfer worked well and we were checked into our rooms which were very comfortable. 1 had a garden view and 1 a pool view. i suggest the pool view. Breakfast was a decent spread as was dinner. Lunch is a la carte. Service is excellent. The bar stocks everything from rum to single malt. May not be too much variety in brands, but certainly quite a few alcohols to choose from. The pool is clean and is open from 6 am to 9.30 pm. They have a nice jogging track (closed after sunset) and a badminton and squash court in addition to a gym, salon and massage center. Efficient travel desk, good room service. Toilets are clean, but could look a little better. They have lovely lawns.

I think it is a very good "value for money" hotel and would certainly recommend it. It also has a nice old world charm and reminds one of the 5 star hotels in India in the 70's and 80's.

“Could have been better”

The restaurant is good. Good food and not unreasonable pricing. The rooms need refurbishment and are not as attractive as the internet pictures. The hotel advertising a poolside bar is an absolute joke! There is no way that you can obtain a drink at the poolside.

We also feel that they charged us unfairly. The rate we paid was for bed and breakfast. Arriving by train in Aurangabad is always at awkward times. We arrived at 07h00 and obviously had breakfast. The following morning we left for the caves without having breakfast. They were completely unbendable in "swopping" the breakfast charge for the two days. NOT fair! Another Indian ripoff!

“Nice hotel but poorly managed”

We stayed two nights at The Ambassador hotel in Aurangabad. Unfortunately the choice of hotels is very limited in Aurangabad so whatever I will say may not have much of an impact.

The Ambassador is actually a very nice hotel but the rooms need a bit of refurbishing. It is close to the airport but since there is nothing much to do in Aurangabad the location does not really matter. This hotel has an efficient travel desk that can arrange trips to the Ajanta and Ellora caves. Most of the staff is quite friendly and will do everything to make your stay agreeable but at their own pace. This hotel does suffer from an acute slow service syndrome.

This being said this hotel is poorly managed. First, I did not get the room I was asking for. After reading the comments about this hotel I specifically requested a room on the garden side when I booked the room. Unfortunately I got a room on the noisy street side of the hotel property. When I asked for a room on the other side I was told the hotel was full (how convenient). The day we arrived we learned that the bar was closed because of some corporate event. The only place you could have a beer was at the restaurant (the swimming pool area is off limit for alcohol consumption). The second day we came back early from our trip and we could not get access to the swimming pool because there was a swimming camp for the local kids. The same day they closed the restaurant because of another corporate event so we had dinner at the bar. The funny thing is that even though we were having dinner at the bar we could not get alcohol because it was a dry day. If this hotel wants to cater to the business community they should have a separate room for those corporate events.

“Review from a German living in Prague> Maybe not the best hotel in town”

No beer around the pool area.
The bar is pretty plain, but ok.
The breakfast buffet is more or less continental and coffee came after I finished my breakfast.
The pool bar definitly renovation.
The very smelly toilettes next to the restaurants should get closed.
They disturb eventhough the Do Not Disturb sign is on.
Take care of the 2 bottles of water in the frigde... it is NOT drinking water!!!
The rooms to the street are pretty noisy... better to have earplugs for a good sleep.
Some rooms have narrow beds.

Other than that the hotel was ok, considering the area of Aurangabad it might be even a good hotel, but maybe not the best there.. The garden is nice. The food in the restaurant is also OK, but they dont know what chicken breast means. The staff wasnt unfriendly, but not the fastest either.
I wasnt sure to give 2 or 3 point in the evaluation.
Again, it might be worth it to check neighboring hotels.
