We are in agreement with most of the reviewers. We loved this hotel. The service was second to none.Loved the idea of not having to dole out tips every second. You can give a lump sum when checking out since the hotel has a central tipping system.
Pool was amazing.Beautifully done and totally serene. The views from the room and terrace were better than what they look on the photos. The hotel was soothing with relaxing background music and wonderful scents everywhere.Total contrast with the real world outside.
Laundry service was prompt and reasonably priced.
Well worth the extra money to stay here.Miles ahead of the other hotels in the area.Deserves its reputation.
Great bath products and huge bathroom.Plenty of free bottled water in room.

“What a view....”

We spent one night here on our honeymoon, and it was worth every penny (outrageously expensive by Indian standards at about $500 per night). We had a fantastic view of the Taj Mahal, as do all the rooms, which is the main draw. The staff were fabulous and full of good suggestions (such as go to the Taj twice, once in the morning and then return about 5pm rather than trying to stay all day like the guidebooks suggest). You get taken about 200m from the Taj in little golf buggies which is fab, although of course reality hits when you walk the last section and get hassled mercilessly - although I'm sure the locals know from the buggies that you're in the most expensive hotel.....The restaurant was excellent, but the real icing on the cake was the pool. The grounds are stunning, and when you see the croquet being set up you realise that the Raj lives on!

Agra is awful! The Taj Mahal wonderous and the two do not sit happily together. The Oberoi is fairly new and not in my Rough Guide but this is certainly the best hotel in Agra and certainly up there with the best in India and, dare I say it, the world!!

When you leave the filth that is the main road thru and drive into the hotel, it could be at that moment the drive of a Surrey Country Club. One is greeted in the usual customary fashion and escorted into the hotel with the red dot on the forehead and a garland. ALL rooms have a Taj view. Small room but you are not there much as you will want to get to the main attraction!!! The Taj Mahal is just amazing!

All the facilities are outstanding but we thought the "coffee shop" type restaurant was a little bland and uninspiring. However, the attentive staff made up for it.

Wonderful evening entertainment of the traditional Indian type was provided at dinner. It was absolutely top draw all round.

All of the other hotels pale against this one in Agra so just pay the extra for that little bit of luxury.

You will love it. Just go!!

“Stunning view of Taj from Balcony”

We loved our stay at the amarvilas - it was gorgeous and the staff was wonderful. The warm bath filled with rose petals was so warm and romantic. I thought i would have relaxed and went to sleep afterwards, but I couldn't sleep all night because I was excited to see the Taj Mahal from our balcony as the sun rose.

The food and service in the restaurants were very good.
Overall I would recommend this place for its ambience and location.

This is the best, and probably most expensive hotel in Agra. The Taj views are fantastic and the service is quite good. But there is absolutely a Disneyland or Las Vegas-like quality to the place.
There are better hotels to splurge on in India. The Taj Mahal is a "must-see", but Agra is not such a beautiful city. If you can afford it and want a hassle-free and luxurious environment, this is the hotel for you. However if your stay in Agra is short and you plan to sightsee more than lay by the pool your money may be better spent eslewhere.
