We've just returned from a fantastic holiday in Rabac, staying at the Neptun Hotel. The Neptun is situated about a 25 minute walk from the harbour in Rabac, which is a lovely scenic coastal walk. There is also a little tourist train that runs along the promenade to the harbour from 10-7, which is great after a day at the beach.

The rooms at the Neptun are fairly basic, but fine for sleeping/showering etc. Be warned that there isn't any air conditioning though, so the rooms were too hot to spend much time in during the day. The breakfast was a good choice of hot food, breads, fruit, cold meats etc. We mainly chose to eat out at the numerous restaurants in Rabac, but when we did have the evening buffet, this was also very nice with a variety of dishes. The prices in the bar were pretty reasonable and had a very good selection of drinks and cocktails. All the staff at the Neptun were very helpful and most spoke great English.

The pool has a gorgeous view over the sea and we could always find loungers, however there is a charge of 10 Kuna, (equivilent to £1) per day. It did get quite busy with children, so wasn't great for proper swimming but was perfect for cooling off from the sun.

Overall we would definitely recommend both the Neptun and the resort of Rabac for a relaxing and enjoyable summer destination.

My sister and I had a wonderful holiday at The Neptun. The staff worked very hard for long hours but couldn't have been more friendly & helpful. The bedrooms are basic but kept perfectly clean, if you intend spending much time in them it would be worth paying for a balcony & sea view but if you only use the room to sleep & dress the rooms at the back of the hotel are adequate. The buffet breakfasts and dinners were excellent; quality and variety were outstanding especially when considering the numbers being catered for. The beach below the hotel consists of a number of very pretty small bays which can get crowded though we had no trouble finding space to lay and the sea is beautiful. There are larger more public beaches nearer to the harbour. The hotel swimming pool looks very attractive though we preferred the sea so didn't venture in. We were very impressed by the evening entertainment and the children's entertainers seemed to do a good job.

Good:

Hotel Pool - good size, not for serious swimmers though
Location - at the end of the town so no real noise distractions
Sea View - pay the extra for a room with a sea view, it's worth it
Reception area - good seating space with two balcony areas looking over the bay

Poor:

Air conditioning - there isn't any in the rooms!
Food - quality is average at best, better to eat outside
Restaurant layout - tables in groups of 6, would be better as 4's
Bar service - slow to respond when sitting outside


This was our first holiday in Croatia and the lasting impression was highly favourable. The weather was fantastic with sunshine every day (late June). The landscape was a verdant green with vegetation and flowers lush and fragrant. The position of the hotel pool meant that it was bathed in sunshine from first thing in the morning to early evening. The pool area was not crowded and it was always easy to find loungers to relax on. The water in the pool was generally colder than the sea but highly effective at keeping you cool in the heat of the day. The terrace bar was next to the pool so it was very convenient to quench your thirst when the heat was too much (although the service was at times slow).

Rooms were basic but those with a sea view and balcony more than made up for the plain decoration and furnishings. It is highly recommended that you pay that little extra for a room facing the sea as it allows you to take full advantage of the sun in the day and watching the activities in the bay.

We stayed on half-board and were somewhat disappointed with the food, especially in the evening. Whilst there was quantity in abundance the choice of food was unimaginative, especially the main courses. Eating out is not that expensive so is probably a better option.

Staff were friendly and obliging and made sure that the common areas (especially the pool) were vigorously cleaned every day (I almost broke into a sweat just watching them).

Safety deposit boxes are available at reception and cost only 50p a day.
