“good way to spend the day”

Phoenix Zoo

Took the grandkids( ages 10,12,13) for a day at the zoo. Wear comfortable shoes!! We took the little train for a tour but it went much too fast to see anything easily(hint.... sit in front by the driver)
This is not a big or fancy zoo but it had some good qualities.

One is the stingray pool. You can pet small sharks and stingrays and we were there at feeding time and the Grkids were able to actually FEED a stingray. how cool is that?

I have dived at Grand Caymans so not quite the same as wild ocean rays but all the same, very cool for the grkids to learn about rays and to see how gentle they were.

The animals for the most part were easy to see and we got really lucky when the wolves came down to check us out (see photos).

We stayed for one bird show and saw some interesting creatures. A nice, not fancy zoo good for kids and lots of walking.
Thank goodness for frozen lemonade stand.

Not big or fancy but a good way to spend the day.

The phx Zoo is a great place to visit if you are in phx.It is also a great place to bring your child(ren) so if you are in phx with your kids this is a great place for both you and your child(ren) to have fun. Also if you are planning a group event the zoo offers camping out at the zoo, and last year i went with my school and it was so fun to camp out at the zoo.

“What a place”

My husband, son (age 8) and I just came back from a week in Phoenix. The zoo (wear your walking shoes) was a great place to visit. The animals were easy to spot and my son was soooo excited to have the map and "lead the way." We tested EACH water fountain there and the water was ALWAYS cold and refreshing. A great 4.5 hours was had by all of us. THANKS.

Moving around a lot, we've visited zoos across the country. Phoenix zoo is not one of my favorites. Although they seemed to be working on it, the zoo could use a facelift. The exhibits were tired, shabby, and too far apart from one another. There wasn't enough shade provided. There was little to draw in small children and oftentimes the walls or fences blocked the view for the short people. Lots of hefting preschoolers at this zoo. Very few zoo employees on hand doing demonstrations or available to answer questions. Only Baltimore Zoo and Miami Metro circa 1985 has been worse, IMO.

“Best Zoo Experience!”

Phoenix Zoo

I've been to a numer of city zoos and this one rates among the best. It's set up so that you feel as though you're walking through the animals' habitat. Great educational offerings, too. Excellent zoo experience. One big tip: go when it opens at 7am when it's cool and uncrowded. By the time we left at 10, it was getting more crowded and much hotter.

Bring a picnic or eat before going, though. Prices for hotdogs, etc. were astronomical. (Somethign like $8- for an ordinary hot dog, coke and chips?) That was insane.
