“Family loved it 100%”

Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

5 of 5 stars
Surrey, England
Jul 8, 2008

If my wife and 7 year old daughter are happy on holiday I am very happy on holiday! In this regard, the location and resort were pretty close to perfect! Arizona is highly recommended. Being from London, the weather here was perfect (a lovely dry heat) and the outdoor, healthy living in Arizona is intoxicating. There are tons of things to do and visit or just chill in the resort which has everything for the family. There's a CrackerJacks around the corner with loads for the kids (go-karts, crazy golf, hovercrafts, baseball cages, etc).
The Westin Resort is located in one of the best parts of Scottsdale with a stunning shopping complex with family restaurants etc just a short walk (or courtesy golf buggy!) from the hotel. The hotel itself is stunning yet non-pretentious as they have cleverly designed it in keeping with the local area and traditions. The decor, art, ambience, colours, flowers, etc all blend in perfectly to the landscape and the underlying karma of Arizona! The pool areas (very important for 7 year olds and their mums!) were perfect. Loads of space and loungers and a pretty good poolside service (once you chill out and get into holiday mode!). The slide and lazy river really are as good as they look on the website! The room (deluxe) and balcony were a tad on the small side but still very comfortable and we didn't spend much time in the room. The resort restaurants were fairly limited and not great value but with so many options just around the corner we only ever had breakfast in the hotel and the occasional poolside lunch! One of the highlights of our holiday was coming back down after a shower and chilling out in the early evenings by the firepits outside the back of the hotel listening to the Piper and chilling before heading out for a nice dinner. We've been to many parts of the World and many resorts - and this has to be our favourite holiday to date! We don't normally go back to the same location twice - but we've made an exception and have booked to go back!

“Hotel not a Resort”

Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

This was the last stop after a 6 week holiday touring Mexico & the US. We had a 3 night stay & were a little disappointed when our request for a king size bed was not accomodated. The hotel seemed to be full with convention types which seemed to detract from the resort image. The rooms were nice enough & we were provided with a complimentary breakfast for the 3 days we were there, not something we had paid for. The main pool was full of convention people & kids which did not make it relaxing. The adults only pool proved to be a better choice. Service was good although the prices for food were on the high side.

Whilst we couldn't complain about anything at the Westin (apart from the high internet cost), the place just didn't have a resort feel to it which is what we were looking for.

As an aside, our bill included charges we did not occur. This appeared to be fixed at checkout however my credit card was later charged for the wrong amount. I discovered this back in AUS and emailed the Westin to fix, whihc they did promptly.

“Enjoyed the Westin Kierland”

Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

My husband and I stayed at this resort with a group of friends who booked it for us. We did enjoy it overall and I think it's rated fairly here on trip advisor as a four star (if I'm not mistaken). Decent service, our room was adequate, typical Westin type room, showing some wear and tear - although - i was impressed to see the robes replaced daily if they were used.

This is a large resort with a fair bit of traffic, but even so, I was quite happy, pools seemed very nice along with pool service. Lots of men's golfing groups and just groups in general. Lobby and public areas were very nice. Surroundings were also good. The shopping area across the street was an nice perk. It still looked a little bare in terms of landscaping in some areas, but perhaps that's because it's a newer resort? Not sure.

My husband had a fantastic massage at the spa, mine was mediocre, but pricing of spa and resort in general is fair value. I would probably stay again if with my family (in the villas) or if I was travelling in a group. My personal taste as a couple would be a smaller resort with a little more character and less hustle and bustle. All in all a fine place to stay though as long as you go in with the right expectations.

“Relaxing and Fun”

Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

5 of 5 stars
Trabuco Canyon, CA
Jun 17, 2008

We stayed at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa from 6/5 - 6/8. Weather was great - so it got to 100 - there's the wonderful adventure pool and lazy river. We went with our 7 year old daughter who loved the pool and lazy river (We did too). Food service at the pool was great and only one time did I start to feel dissapointed (my daughter has a peanut allergy and the cookie's that come with the kids meal all had nuts ) when I placed the order, the waiter said he couldn't substitute any other sweet for the cookie, however, when he brought us our meals, there was a rice krispy treat she could have! YEAH! The pool never felt crowded and there was plenty of shade (tree's, umbrellas) to sit under. Important if you spend the entire day there like we did.

Food was expensive as most hotels and resorts usually are, however, it's right across the street from the Kierland shopping center and plenty of eating choices.

Overall service was good... Bellhop Chris was super nice when he came to take our luggage down to the car. When he found out that we were in Scottsdale to pick up our new puppy, he went and got us a puppy present for our drive home (a box of litter bags)... and got us cold water.

I was only unhappy with Breakfast at Deseo's - we had a simple order since we were going to check out - cereal for my daughter, I ordered 1 egg with bacon and my husband ordered the hash.
It took way too long to bring us our breakfast (The waiter was no where to be seen) and when it came our toast was very cold. We did complain, but passed on getting new toast since we were needing to check out.

Overall I recommend the Westin Kierland Resort.

“Attractive interior and grounds”

Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

Jun 14, 2008

Stayed here for 2 days of business meetings. It is a very attractive hotel .... a little ornate for my tastes. A lot of the hotel is devoted to meeting/convention traffic, but despite the large amount of folks there, was still pretty quiet. Golf is a big thing there. There are some upscale shops and restaurants across the street you can walk to. Although the staff was very helpful during the stay, when I arrived late (about 9-10 pm) there did not seem to be much staff around. Also, it is a good hike to the parking lot.
