“Great respite from the oppressive July heat.”

Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center

Booked in for one night, but stayed an extra night as the resort was so welcoming. Coming from a coolish Australian winter, the 117 degree heat in Scottsdale came as quite a shock. But the resort was a cool oasis - and the price was very competitive - $99 per night, plus taxes. The 5 - 7.30 happy hour was terrific - including the yummy margharitas.

“Exactly what we expected”

Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center

Got 2 rooms from 06/27-06/30 for a priceline bid of $67 + tax and then the resort fee of $16 per night per room. All said, it was around $90 per night which seemed a good price for this resort. Rooms were large. AC worked great. Kids loved the pool. They had happy hour at the poolside bar every day from 3-6 pm with $2 Bud Light drafts and 3.50 for margueritas. Lots of lounging chairs with umbrellas. Good supply of clean towels. They set up a poolside cookout for anyone wishing to pay between $6-9 for lunch on the weekend. The resort fee covered bike rentals (too hot to bike in June), internet access, parking, coffee and oj bar. They have a 1 pm checkout so rooms tend to get cleaned much later in the day. For us it was around dinnertime. Overall, great stay and recommend.

“great value for money”

Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center

We used priceline and specified a 63$ per night for a 4 star in Scottsdale. I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. I am used to European pricing and didnt hold out much for what we had paid. I was however more than happy with the hotel. There is a 16$ resort fee which i think is quite standard which does bump the price but i believe it was still good value.

The rooms were quite large and used wooden shutters to keep the light out. If you sleep late and lightly you may find that there is some light seeping into the room. The color scheme uses a lot of brown and other desert colors for the hotel. The bed was comfortable and the A/C was adequate given the outside temperatures.

The pool area is reasonable with about 50 loungers so it did not get crowded while we were there. The water quality did seem to suffer on our second day and my son complained that it was over chlorinated and full of bugs...children!

We cannot vouch for the food as we did not eat in the hotel.
Overall i think that for the price paid it was worth it. I would have to say that if the price was to exceed about 130$ i would be less favorable with the review.

“Beware this hotel - watch the hidden charges add up!”

Beware this hotel. Their advertised rates are just bait and switch tactics. Once you get there, the front desk thugs beat you up with demands to pay for a parking space, internet, etc. etc. The parking lot was nearly empty and although we had only one car, each room had to pay the extra fee. Dishonest. Watch out for these scam artists. If you dare to protest, they get very nasty and threatening. I heard the same from some other guests that overheard what was happening at the front desk when we checked in. They had the same bad experience. What a great way to run a "resort." I suggest staying elsewhere.

“Fun, decent hotel”

Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center

4 of 5 stars
New York City, New York
Jun 5, 2008

I had to go to Scottsdale for a business meeting so I went a couple of days early for pleasure. I got it on Priceline for $125/night under the "resorts" category. I think for April in Scottsdale it was a fair price.

The hotel is about 30 minutes from the Phoenix airport. It was very easy to find with GPS. I arrived about noon on a Sunday and they didn't have a room available. I had called ahead and requested a king room. They were honest on the phone and told me there is only about 10 king rooms on the whole property. (She explained they are a convention hotel so with double beds they can accommodate double the amount of people.) It makes sense and I appreciated her honesty. Also, I knew what to expect and didn't get my hopes up for a king room. They checked my luggage and I used their gym area to change for the pool. The gym is small, but has decent equipment. The locker room is showing its age, but it was clean and well-stocked.

The pool area is not a "luxury resort pool"...but you also aren't paying those prices. It was very crowded, but I did find a spot. They have a bar with a friendly bartender and drink specials. They also have TV's so you can catch the game. They also had a BBQ going and were selling hamburgers and hot dogs. The food was good and reasonably priced. I thought it was a fun atmosphere and enjoyed myself. It was sort of like being at your friends apartment complex in college. :)

Later in the afternoon I booked a 55 min. massage with the desk at the gym. It was $105 and I thought the masseuse did a good job. The massages are done in a treatment room off the ladies locker room. It isn't glamorous, but it did the job.

I eventually ended up in room 228 which is one of the basic rooms in the hotel. This room is in the section of the hotel above the front desk. The rooms are a decent size. People have complained about the rooms being dark and they are. However, you are in the desert so you want them to be as cool as possible. I enjoyed the dark woods, etc. The beds are very comfortable and the linens were nice.

The TV/ work area and sitting area are typical for a hotel. The resort fee of $16/ day covers your internet and your valet parking. Personally...I thought that was a deal. The internet in the room worked fine. I did find that the wireless in the lobby didn't work, but maybe that was just when I was there. It was frustrating when I was waiting for my room. I gave the valet about 10 minutes to bring the car around and it was always there with the air conditioner running and the car cooled off.

As you can see from the pictures the closet is quite large. The bathrooms are also a nice size. As big as the rooms are...and with the set up...personally I wouldn't want to share a room like this with a co-worker, but I assume people do. If you are traveling with a significant other, family or close friend...it would be fine. The towels and bath products are all well stocked. They stock their own bath products that I thought were nice and plentiful. Housekeeping was very diligent during the time I was there.

Sangria's is the bar off the lobby and it is a nice place to meet up for drinks or to watch the game. The food in the bar and for room service was all quite good and typically priced for hotel food. I found all the employees to be quite friendly.

The hotel is about 15 minutes from the heart of Scottsdale near the big mall. They have a direction sheet at the front desk that makes it really easy to get there. There is also a great place called The Food Bar. It is on Stetson near the hotel. It is like a healthy, gourmet deli type place. You can get great foods to go our eat it there. Awesome for breakfast and very close to the hotel.

Honestly, for the price I thought the hotel was fine. I don't know that it is a destination resort. However, if you find yourself in the area and you need a deal...or you get it on Priceline...I don't think you will be disappointed.
