Since I used to live in the Dominican and have been working over there in hotels, this time I´ve just been looking for a quiet and relaxing hotel which is affordable and close to the airport. Punta Goleta matched it all. The resort is kept in very good conditions concerning the garden area, the pool was always clean, the food ok. Don´t expect 5 stars where there are just 3 - people should be knowing that!!!
The beach is a nice 5min walk away, crossing the main road over a bridge. It´s a small part for the hotel guests and goes on to Cabarete or to the other direction passing the kite surfer´s beach until Sosua. For those who love walking on the beach it´s perfect!
The beach bar provides you with drinks (and snacks) until 5pm - watersports can be tried out directly in Cabarete. A free shuttle bus takes the hotel guests over there 3 times a day.
The animation is ok for a resort of that size. A small open air stage in the outside area is the venue for the evenings. During my stay in March there was unfortunately every night at the same time rain showers coming down - so the guys had hard work performing their comedy and dance shows. As I am used to really professional dance shows, I´ve first been a little bit disappointed - nevertheless it was good entertainment.
While daytime the animation team offers just few activities, so that one can really calm down and relax. The set music wasn´t too loud and alway a nice background noise.
All the other hotel facilities like reception, housekeeping, cleaning and service are appropiate for a dominican 3 star category. Don´t expect more. The condition of the rooms already passed his expiry date - but they are going to restaurate and renovate it shortly.
The hotel´s situation is quite perfect. Cabarete is nearby for those who need a little bit nightlife, or just for shopping some souvenirs. Caution: If you are looking for some Dominican lifestyle, don´t go to Cabarete or Sosua anyway. For those the hotel and the whole area is not suitable. Go to Samana. Cabarete is just for kite surfing as well as a big european & american orientated tourism entertainment center.
In general the hotel staff is nice and friendly - if you know how the salaries and working conditions are, it´s once more to be mentioned that they are doing a good job. I know how Dominican life is, and this hotel treats his employees much harder than others do!
Now the hotel is closed and under reconstruction since they changed the management. Don´t know when it will be opened again for tourism. The plans are to get the rooms in better shape, new painting, maybe additional guest rooms, more facilities for your personal recreation...let´s see, how it turns out. Hope it won´t lose his familiarity and the relaxing atmosphere!
