My Girlfriend and I stayed from June 6th - 10th 2008. First of all, whoever rated this hotel a 4 star or 5 star review, must be nuts! or dont know what the real vacation is all about. Im from New york city, and we've been to many places BUT this OnE is, the real truth is, Its a disaster hotel, we dont usually like writing reviews but this one is exception fact the matter is that we we're really FRUSTRATED. Alright, i give this hotel a 2 star, because of the cleanliness of the surroundings (walkway and gardens) and the food is tasty alright (not the best yet but). Im going to break it down for a better TRUTH.

When we arrived, we we're greeted with a refreshment (okay), and we're given room 2422.

THE ROOM
the moment we got in to our room, the air is very stagnant and no AC running, so we turn it on, after 30minutes still no AC coming out from the ceiling just dry air. And the TV is not functioning at all, so we call for attendant (got fixed, so far so good) Then, we call the front desk again for the AC problem, and they told us they're fixing it, so we thought just a minor malfunction. (i will have more on this AC thing). The door has a malfunction 2nd lock (for security) this is NOT GOOD. That's one reason on our 2 night stay, we've heard from other vacationers, that there's a 2 nights in a row ROBBERY happen. so for the first 2 night, we had to put a chair on the door so we'll know if someone try to break in our room, on this ordeal, i couldn't sleep. We ask around if their rooms

has a working 2nd lock, and guess what!? NONE! so immediately we requested a new room and to our surpirse 5 people ahead of me at the front desk are all asking for a change room. Same reasons, security and No proper AC and just a bad rooms. Then we we're moved at room 2612 (pool view) thats because I tipped the receptionist ($5) to give us a better room. Again, NO AC working! After all this ordeal, we stop complaining to the front desk cuz they dont do anything anyways, until we found a staff person working on the building and complained the AC problem (it was around 11:30pm) and they told us in 1/2 hour they will turn on the compressor on the AC so then it get colds at midnight, We realize that, they control the AC, they would turn it off during daytime and noontime and turn it on at midnight, what the!?? so we leave it. I also advice, to bring your own pillow because i had to sleep and use towel as my pillows for the last 2nights (since the room changed) because the pillows in our smell does smell STINKS. The TV is so outdated. The sink in the bathroom has a drainage problem. 2 roaches been seen.

THE POOL
My girlfriend and I we only jumped in on the pool once, for I noticed that they don't clean it at all, we we're there for 4nights and 5 days, not a single staff clean the pool. It doesn't even smell chlorine at all, the water quality is just like what you have in the tap water. I mean, I'd rather go in a swimming pool that i can smell the chlorine knowing that its chemically treated and taken care of. you can see the flooring of the pool, paints chipped, hair strands, and sands. Just DISGUSTING. Same thing with beach chairs, they do arranged it but NEVER cleaning it.

THE DRINKS
Dont expect name brand alcohol. I advice that you pick up some alcohol at the airport (duty free) shops. And make sure you have supply of bottled water.

THE BEACH
Its a beach, its not carribean sea that you get a clear crystaline water, Its atlantic ocean. clean sands, but beware of those vendors, they won't stop bothering you. and don't try to go out for a night strolling at the beach shore. Its Dangerous. Vacationers always got advised about it not to leave the resort premises cuz its dangerous. It is, trust me.

THE STAFF
Some are friendly, some dont smiles, some don't care at all. The animation team, is alright, its not broadway, so expect some corny at times.

OVERALL,
its really a 2 star resort Hotel, Its supposed to be the Wyndham, but I guess it all change in Viva wyndham tangerin - cabarete. What really scares us is the fact that 2 ROBBERY incidents. So lock up your room at night, use chair if necessary and double check the lock.

We won't GO BACK. The Worst Vacation EVER!

My wife and I stayed from the 12th to the 26th May 2008, most of the other reviews cover the best and worst of this Hotel, I would like to add a few comments, the grounds are full of colour and every part is cleaned every day I spent many hours photographing the flowers and Birds in the grounds, my wife and I are both vegetarians and there was not a lot of choice of food for us exept the usual salad, breakfast was about the best meal for us,

The rooms leaves a lot to be desired with paint flaking off the walls and ceilings, and only one chair to sit on also the balcony had parts missing! Making it very unsafe for children we complained to the First Choice rep but nothing was done about it, when I was shaving the very heavy porcalaine cover under the sink fell off just missing my bare feet creating a large hole in the tiles, our maid was terrible and we had to complain because she was not leaving toilet rolls or any washing toiletries, we had to go and buy these at a supermarket, this was after I had tipped her $40.00, do not give a tip untill the last day, I give it on the third day and thing got worst after that.

About the staff! The animation team do a fantastic job well done you lot, the restaurant waiters could not do enough for you, great bunch of people, the male bar staff should give up their jobs to people who will love this type of work, they did not, the female staff were fantastic.

We also went on the outback safari, take our advice do not book this trip, you are on the back of a truck and because of the roads my back was in a terrible state by the time we arrived back, five of us went at a cost of $80 dollars each, this was for about four hours to be given a few drinks a terrible meal a 15 min boat ride, a swim in a river that we found out later was where the raw sewage from the villages go, and about 45 min in the sea with not enough boogie boards to give to everyone on the trip.

The better option is to go to the foyer where all the taxi drivers display their prices! We booked a fantastic people carrier full air con leather intirior for the Santiago trip, (make sure you see their licence and check the taxi before going) the cost was $100.00 so for the four of us $25.00 each, the driver took us the mountain route and stopped every time we asked for us to take photos, he also acted as our guide in Santiago, then on to a cable car to the top of a mountain, the to Sosua for a fantastic lunch, we were out nine hours in comfort and could not fault ths trip, we used the same taxi after that.

We just returned after 2 weeks at the Wyndham, of course it´s a 3 star hotel so you have to bear in mind this rating althoug the staff and specially the managment wakes wonders in an outstanding location full of sports opportunities. This place is for windy sports, and for enjoy wide beaches and to know people around the world.
If you enjoy playing card or backgammon for example, take yours beacuse it will no be available at the hotel. Also the main building has an elevator so if you need one ask your room in that building.
The hotel has an Internet center (u$ for 30 minutes) but do´n´t have WIFI connection, we have to go to a bar with our PC.
If you like sports, and if you open your mind you will have a wonderfull time as we did it.

My new husband and I stayed at the Wyndham Tangerine for our honeymoon. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations. Upon arrival at the "resort" we were greeted by a less than friendly front desk staff. We had 2 seperate reservations due to a special I had received and I repeatedly verified that we would be okay for the length of our stay and we were initially told we would need to pay for the last few nights of our stay. My card had already been charged, which I told her, so she said that was fine. Three nights into our stay we found ourselved locked out of our room. Going to the front desk, the same woman again said we needed to pay. I repeated that I already had so she made a phone call then reinstated our keys without apologizing. Back to the first day....the first room we were put in was nothing to write home about. We started to get settled, then noticed the ceiling in the bathroom was leaking...badly. So we went back to the front desk and were treated like we were the problem. We got a new room, only to have the rooms keys not work, so we had to walk all the way back (it's about 90 degrees with 100% humidity) to get the keys fixed. Throughout the stay most of the staff was less than friendly (with the exception of the German girl at the guest service desk, Me the photographer and Hector the bellman). The food....left quite a bit to be desired. We ended up eating offsite a few times just to get a good tasting meal. There are only 3 restaurants. One is a buffett and the other 2 you have to make reservations at. My food at the Italian restaurant was very undercooked. Our room...good thing we weren't in it very much! The couch had stains on it, the paint was peeling off the walls and there were water stains on the ceiling. It was in need a serious paint job! I was surprised overall that Wyndham put their name on this property.

As for the beach....this is a sport destination, which we knew so that was ok. But if you're looking for pristine sand this isn't the place. It gets very windy on this part of the island.
