I found the place while looking for a place to stay and learn to kitesurf. Everyone talks about Cabarete being a fantastic place to lean to kite. The other places to learn were a lot more expensive, and you had to wear a wetsuit, so I though what the heck, and I booked with the Kite Lounge online.
When I arrived I was a little surprised. I was expecting something more disorganized and chaotic, but the Dominican Republic seemed pretty straight forward. Taxi rates, directions, everything was pretty easy to figure out.
The Kite Lounge itself is a guest house right on the beach in Cabarete. On either side are big hotels, and this place kind of stands out as unique and fun. They have a little `snack shack` that serves lunch food when the wind is on, and they throw a great party every now and then. The rooms are basic but cool, with a great ocean view.
Cabarete has a great night life and the crew from the Kite Lounge was great in taking all the guests out. They acted like guides and made sure we all had fun, (as well as watching out for us)
The kite lessons were fantastic. The deal they offer includes unlimited supervision, so you progress at your own pace instead of being pushed through like cattle.
If you are thinking about leaning to kite, this is a great place to learn to do it. Once back in Toronto, I felt confident enough to go out on my own, and I am looking forward to going back to progress to the next level!
