“Cabarete getaway at the Casa Blanca”

Casa Blanca Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Saskatchewan, Canada
May 20, 2008

I decided to try Cabarete this year...just for a different trip.I'm slowly returning to my Saskatchewan lifestyle after a super month at the Casa Blanca. I had arranged for Puerto Plata airport pickup through William and Dorothy at the Casa Blanca. They sent Jose who was polite and a great driver. Though I'd been to Sosua twice before, the way the traffic is in the Dominican Republic always makes me glad to know there's someone else driving.US$35/one way to the hotel.
Dorothy and William couldn't do enough to make my stay comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable. They were always giving me names of restaurants and directions to places in town. Janet's market is so close...it meant being able to buy just what I needed for a day or so. Then go back and buy more when those were gone. If only we could learn to live like that back home!
The hotel is a short walk past some great little restaurants to have an icy cold Presidente or something to eat. Easter time meant closed beaches due to high waves along the north shore...so being a block back from the beach can be a good thing!
I was in Studio B, ground floor with patio door access to a wonderful tropical garden, but also on the other side, a door with direct access to the pool. It was a peaceful place to be...away from the main part of town, but easy access to everything. It had a two burner propane cooktop, a good sized fridge to keep my yogurt, fruit, juices, beer, a sink, two twin sized beds, big space for hanging clothes, ceiling fan,(don't really need A/C as the Cabarete breezes blow through),bathroom with sink, toilet and big shower. Outside my door to the pool was a table and chairs to sit out and eat or read. Lots of chairs supplied by the most wonderful, well kept, clean pool. Even though the beautiful beach is closeby, just floating in the pool was one of my favourite places to be at the end of a day..
I met some truly great people from all over Canada and the US...some there to help in the villages.
I will definitely return to the Casa Blanca...can't quite imagine going anywhere else to stay. Dorothy and William seem like family now. Next time, I think I'll just take one of the rooms with a fridge, no cooktop. It seemed pretty hot to be cooking and for eating out breakfast and supper once in awhile, I'd be hard pressed to spend $20. The DR is definitely my idea of paradise on a budget. The rum is so reasonable to buy and have your own happy hours...or head to many restaurants for half-priced appetizers..two for one drinks. The Dominican people are friendly, hard working....many of our service people here at home could certainly learn from them. They never bring your bill to you till you ask for it...at home here, it seems many restaurants bring your bill while you're still eating the main course. very laid back atmosphere.
I hope this bit of information will get you to contact William and Dorothy for your next stay in Cabarete. Cabarete is a beautiful town.....no beach like it!

“Took a Team to the Casa Blanca”

Casa Blanca Hotel

We were a team of 8 and had wanted an inexpensive hotel within a short distance of a village in which we were volunteering. Casa Blanca fit the bill beautifully. We occupied 2 suites and 2 rooms - clean and comfortable; we were not looking for luxury. What impressed me the most was the hospitality of the owners! They even allowed us to use a vacant room for the abundant supplies we had brought for our mission. They also allowed us to use a kitchen in which we were able to prepare most of our meals. Dorothy treated us to her home-made goodies (mmm!) and went out of her way to support us in any way possible. We could not have accomplished our mission as we did without her computer expertise!

We enjoyed eating breakfast by the pool, sometimes inside around the big friendly table.

We awoke to the delightful sounds of nature - the birds and, if you listened carefully, the ocean.

Casa Blanca offers a real home from home atmosphere and I would return in a moment!

We arrived through Global Outreach Missions in the Dominican Republic to work in the village of Cieneaga.

The Casa Blanca (William & Dorothy) were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our two weeks - connecting us with Jose the taxi driver who did an amazing job to giving us tips and such for restaurants, etc. A great place for single travellers and groups.aromas from the cute breakfast restaurant at the hotel entrance.

Between trips to Cieneaga we took advantage of the pool which was always refreshing. In the mornings we were teased by the

Within walking distance is well maintained grocery store, Janet's, with fresh baked bread, meats, cheese, locally grown vegetables and everything from shampoo to rum.

Just down a short path of lovely stone work walls is the Caberete beach. A beauty at all times of the day - tide in and out.

Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance. Priced right for the experienced traveller, long term visitor and groups.

Enjoyed the whole experience.

“Wonderful Place to stay”

Casa Blanca Hotel

Apr 7, 2008

We sure had a great time in Cabarete and very pleasant stay at Casa Blanca Hotel. Dorothy made us feel extremely welcome and gave us some really useful tips about where to shop, the best place to snorkel, good places to eat and when restaurants have the 1/2 price deals, etc. The place was very clean and we felt safe staying at the hotel. Our suite in particular had a great view of the pool and had a little private balcony which we quite enjoyed. It was very nice to have the fridge and little kitchenette and have the option to be able to cook if we chose to.

There is a wonderful restaurant on site that serves a reasonably priced delicious, wholesome breakfast. The place was always packed in the mornings with people from all the nearby hotels. Janet’s Supermarket is where the locals shop for groceries and was only steps away. The beach and the best little BBQ chicken place is only a block away.

On Good Friday, Dorothy treated her guests with some home-made baking while we were just hanging out by the pool that afternoon. Saturday night, my husband and I decided to experience the night life at Cabarete but felt we needed someone to keep an eye on our 7 & 10 year old kids . Bless Dorothy’s heart, she volunteered to help us with them, so we were able to go out and enjoy ourselves.

Casa Blanca is not a fancy place but you get real great value for the $$ and you get excellent personal service from the owners of this hotel. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and would go back there in a heart beat!!

“Peace & Quiet & Excellent Hospitality”

Casa Blanca Hotel

Mar 29, 2008

This was our 2nd time to Casa Blanca.

We were here almost exactly 1 year ago and the improvements to the hotel & noticeable & significant.

Owners Dorothy & William are the most thoughtful & caring people and made our stay truly enjoyable.

Just to give you an idea, Dorothy offered us an extra fan, extra blankets, dvd's to watch and brought Easter/Semana Santa treats by the pool in the afternoon. She checked on us daily to be sure we had everything we needed and definitely went above & beyond!

In a small way, we tried to return the favour by bringing Dorothy a litle homemade Dominican lunch of fried plaintains & chicken & the next night she brought us one of her specialities, pan fried fajitas & sweets.

After spending 2 weeks at Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada for our wedding (which was also great!), our last week at Casa Blanca offered the much needed peace & quiet we were looking for.

We stayed in Studio B, right at pool side and spent most days listening to music & playing cards by the pool.

We were lucky enough to enjoy all the Semana Santa excitement with an awesome 2 night beach party on Cabarete Beach & saw OMEGA free in concert. It was so nice to walk to the center of town to take part in all the festivities & then walk back to the peacefulness of the hotel.

Rita & Juan are fantastic & somehow always knew exactly when to come to clean the rooms without being intrusive.

The only negative would be the amount of mosquitos! They seem to love me but we bought some mosquito coils & that seemed to keep them at bay.

I just want to thank them both for a great week & to show our appreciation for their hard work & tremendous efforts!

We will be back again as soon as possible!!
