“Excellent Choice”

Moevenpick Resort Petra

We stayed for a couple of nights as part of a tour of Jordan with 2 kids 10 and 7. The hotel is very close to the entrance to the Siq - walking distance. There is the usual tight security at the entrance which could be a problem with delays if a tour group has just arrived - the hotel is popular with them. Check in was quick and easy but I would imagine could be slow at busy times. Our room was excellent large with 2 big double beds and much to the kids delight chocolate on the pillows. The hotel has a very impressive lobby in traditional architecture which is a great place to relax and watch the world go by. It was a pity the outdoor terrace roof top bar was closed. What delighted the kids was the basement games room with darts table tennis pool and other facilites aimed at kids. Great fun and kept them amused. There was a good choice of restaurants. With having the kids we chose the buffet restaurant ( good breakfasts by the way) and were not disappointed. Plenty of choice and good quality. There were a couple of other restaurants which also looked good. Overall an excellent choice in a great location for Petra which is stunning. The hotel does get busy with tour groups but then in this area all hotels probably do. I would not hesitate to recomend it and would happily stay here again

“What a pity”

Moevenpick Resort Petra

This hotel is well placed a few minutes walk from the entrance to Petra. Its design is very interesting with a floor to ceiling, 4 floors, central area. This leads to a number of problems as whilst we were there several funcions were held in this area. All access to bedrooms runs round this central area and it acts as conduit for noise and music which went on till small hours. We found it to be very noisy in the rooms which affected our sleep. As we were visiting Petra and other local sites our guides had arranged early morning starts and alarm calls - these calls were never received, some of our party having to miss breakfast to make the bus. Not good when you have diabetics travelling. The food was OK but not the choice of other Moevenpicks and the service was deffinitely not up to the standard of sister hotels in Jordan. I would deffinitely look for other accommodation in Petra next time.

“A solid four stars....”

Moevenpick Resort Petra

We stayed for four nights at the Moevenpick Petra in October, during a much-too-short privately-devised skim of Jordan and Syria, and we consider it to by a solid four-star hotel. In places, 4+. The service was excellent (courteous and friendly ) and the food was of high quality and wide in choice. We presented them with a very awkward allergy….onions; you try cooking without them…and they coped with aplomb. (As well, they never needed reminding.) True, the hotel is not sumptuous in the way, say, of the Four Seasons in Amman or Damascus, and the impressive foyer and enclosed central courtyard are diminished to some extent by the security barriers that are sadly present in so many hotels around the world now. Our room was a reasonable size, comfortable and quiet. A minus was that the hot water tended to run out late in the afternoon when everyone came back from Petra, and also when new tour groups arrived. Another (surely avoidable) curiosity is that the roof garden, a very pleasant place, was often closed. The hotel’s situation could not be improved; you are virtually at the entrance to the site.

“Solidly better than average hotel, in an Ideal Location”

Moevenpick Resort Petra

4 of 5 stars

We only stayed one night at this hotel, but I've stayed at a lot of 4-5 star hotels in the past and I think this was solidly a 4 star hotel, it is nice, the restaurants are very nice, and the location is nothing short of IDEAL. After schlogging around Petra for hours and returning back tired in the early evening its fantastic to just be steps from your hotel, a hot shower, and a good meal. If you want a perfect location and a solidly really good place to say, but aren't necessarily looking for (or need) "a 5 star fully waited on hand and foot" kind of experience, this is a really good choice.

“Location is Best Selling Point”

Moevenpick Resort Petra

2 of 5 stars

After visiting Egypt on a 10 day Tauck tour, we went to Jordan to visit the ruins at Petra. We stayed for two nights at the Moevenpick Resort. The room was average, but certainly nothing close to other business class hotels. The water was a continuous problem. It would frequently change from hot to cold in the middle of a shower or completely drop off because there was no pressure in the system. Others in the tour group complained of the same problems as well as problems with the toilet and plumbing system. The staff was not overly friendly or accommodating. The food and meals were the worst on the tour. The breakfast buffet had limited selections that were not adequately stocked. The restaurant staff tended to be rude when asked for help. I did not hear anything positive from the group about the restaurant experience. The only thing the Hotel really has going for it is its ideal location to the entrance to the Petra ruins. I would not recommend the hotel for any other reason but convenience.
