The first thing I noticed about my room was that, although large by regular hotel standards, was on the small side for a Residence Inn (RI). The room appeared to be about 75% of the size of a typical RI, complete with a refrigerator that's about 75% of a regular fridge and a dishwasher about 75% of a regular dishwasher. Still, the fridge is much larger than the typical hotel shoebox fridge. The room and bathroom were clean. The bathroom is on the small side for a RI, clean though and with great water pressure. Vanity is outside the bathroom. I'd give the bed a C+ for comfort: adequate but nothing special. The staff was friendly and helpful.
This hotel is located a stone's throw from railroad tracks and in walking distance to the main rail yard of Bakersfield. Trains come by here at all hours of the day and night blowing the whistle. We weren't even in a room bordering the tracks, but could hear it quite distinctly at 12:30 am, 1 am, etc. If train whistles in the wee hours of the night bother you, I suggest rethinking your stay here. Otherwise, we've been here 3 days, and have heard no noise from other rooms, other than water being turned on and off. The property is quiet at night (other than train noise), and we haven't heard anyone outside the door until 7 am.
One great thing about this place is the location (if you don't mind the trains), centrally located in Bakersfield. It's right across the street from a large shopping center with a Lassen's health food store, several restaurants (including Chinese, Hawaiian, and Mexican cuisine), Long's drugs, and lots more.
