While on extended business I had benn staying a four star hotel.

I was directed to the Rose Garden Inn, The rates, Atmosphere, Staff and ambiance were ten times better than the four star hotel. I wound up staying there for 2 1/2 months and do not regret it. We need more B&B's like the Rose Garden Inn.

Since I was traveling on business, I had requested a room on a high floor to get away from street noise. I arrived around 10pm and found my previously higher room on the printout had been crossed out, and a room on the second floor penciled in. I didn't think much of it until I got to the tiny room that faced Telegraph Avenue, which is one of the main streets in the city. I didn't get much sleep with the buses driving back and forth that night. The next morning I asked to switch to another room. At first they said that they were booked but then the fellow saw that someone was checking out that morning. I had packed up my bags and put them in my car and offered to give the fellow my keys. He said that that was unnecessary and it was likely they could do the switch. I got a surprise when I returned that evening after work and they said that they had not switched my room. So after suffering 2 sleepless nights in the room, I cannot recommend the hotel. The bathroom was clean but the entire room was in need of a major overhaul. The only redeeming thing was the breakfast but that does not make up for the poor service, noisy conditions, and run down room.

Oh, and I had filled out comment card which but they don't have a comment box that you can drop the card into so you have to hand it directly to the staff.

It seems like a nice place from the pictures, but it's actually much more run down up close. The price per room is just too high for what you get. The beds aren't comfortable, and the pillows and towels are nothing close to luxury. The breakfast serves plenty of food, but it's also nothing special. However, the inn is a 10 minute walk from the Bart, and the free parking lot is really handy.

I am a frequent business traveler and get tired of the high rise, very shiny hotels. Don't get me wrong, I love a good night in a Westin, but sometimes a change is just the ticket. The Rose Garden Inn was just that. The people were great. My computer was having trouble with the wireless connection and they set me up with one of theirs. The room was VERY pink, but the cieling fan was perfect and the bathroom is good size for an "historical" hotel. The first floor of my house had a nice parlor area with a fire place, sofas and a powder room. (My room was on the second floor) The garden's were beautiful, full of blooms and bistro tables. The breakfast was simple, abundant and fresh. And, parking, first come first served, was free. I will stay again.
