An airline placed me at the Sheraton Gateway when my flight was overbooked in March 2005 and I volunteered to give up my seat and leave the next day; I stayed at the hotel for free and was happy to have an extra night in San Francisco. (The hotel's airport shuttle the next morning was full of people who were also apparently on overbooked flights; one wondered aloud if our airline was the hotel's main source of business.) I completely agree with the comments below that describe the hotel as "average." The lobby is elegant, but the rooms are very standard hotel rooms with slightly faded carpet and a gloomy olive-and-green decorating scheme. The bed, however, was among the most comfortable I've experienced. The hotel's free shuttle to the airport runs reliably every thirty minutes; it will get you there in less than ten minutes, and from the International Terminal you can take Bart downtown in about forty-five minutes. An airport hotel would never be my own choice, but if that's what you're looking for, this one is a bargain if you can get it at any of the sharply reduced prices mentioned in other reviews below.

The hotel is not 4 stars. However, the rooms are spacious and clean. Although it says it's an airport hotel, i don't find the hotel close to SFO at all. In addition, the hotel buildling is rather old and smelly. Ok worthwhile if you got a really good deal to stay in this hotel.

We were shocked to learn we had to pay $13 per night to park in their OWN garage! Not only that, they charged us a $3 per night Burlingame Tourism Assessment Fee which we had never heard of and we had just stayed at the wonderful Embassy Suites in Oct., and also the Doubletree in October!!!! Has anyone else paid this ridiculous Tourism fee???? I would like to know!

We were given a room with a horrible view---the rooftop a/c units and a concrete parking lot!

The front desk personnel were also rude; not what one wants to contend with after a five hour flight across the USA!

Go elsewhere if possible!

I went with this hotel based on budget needs. $55 per night on Hotwire was a great price for a 4 star hotel. I read the reviews after I found out I was to stay here and was expecting the worst. So, here is the deal. This is definately not a 4 star hotel as was advertised on Hotwire. More like a solid 3 or 3.5 star hotel. The good points: It has the potential feel of a 4 star hotel in that there is a restaurant, business center, pool, fitness center, and is fairly large. Plus, those beds are fantastic. The bad points: The carpets were fading, the service was indifferent, the rooms a little worn, and the hotel had a dated feel. Also, you were charged for everything under the sun such as $13 for parking, $1 per local or 1-800 call for 60 minutes, 10 cents for every minute thereafter, $3 per minute to call San Francisco, and no wireless internet use in the rooms, only in the lobby and that cost $10.77 per day.

I must stress that I would never have booked this hotel if it weren't for the amazing price. But, since I did get a great deal, it wasn't an unpleasant experience, just a very average one.
