“Cute in Carmel”

Loved the Lobos Lodge. We stayed here for two nights and found it perfect for exploring Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey's other nearby highlights. The room (#45) was cozy with a fireplace (though we didn't use it) and a high, slanted ceiling and beachy feel. The bathroom was huge with a separate toilet/shower area and powder room. Each morning, a newspaper and small breakfast was delivered which was a nice start to the day. Turn-down service is offered as well. The grounds are lovely and well-kept with a garden area. Each "room" is almost like a separate little cottage, eliminating the "hotel" feel. The location was key--it was blocks away from the gorgeous beach and right in the middle of tons of art galleries, shops, boutiques, and restaurants--not to mention, just a short drive to Monterey where the higher priced, more touristy spots are. I highly recommend this for an affordable stay if you are visiting Carmel or Monterey.

“Great place”

We stayed here for the penultimate night of our holiday. Dave, who was on reception when we arrived was very helpful and accomodating. Before we even booked in we knew it was going to be a great place to stay - and it was. Carmel is a beautiful place and we could have spent a lot more time here. 17 mile drive was incredible - mind you the signposting is rubbish!!! A tip here is to keep an eye on the red centre markers in the middle of the road - wish we had known that at the start!!
we could not fault our stay here and thoroughly recommend it

“friendly and relaxing”

We had been hiking in Big Sur for three days before our tired, sore, dirty, and sweaty selves arrived at the Lobos Lodge. We didn't have a reservation but I had called on the drive over and they had 2 rooms left. Our host was so friendly and gracious when we arrived, especially considering what a sight we must've been standing in the lobby! After showers and a nap in the lovely room, we were beginning to feel human again. The room was very clean and quite spacious, with a separate seating area and a nice balcony overlooking a flower-filled courtyard. Our host gave us some great recommendations for dinner, and just seemed genuinely happy to welcome guests and talk about the area. The location was perfect and the property beautiful, with flowers and gardens everywhere, and the beach a short walk away. I will DEFINITELY stay there again on my next trip to the area.

“Nice room, walking distance to beach”

Lobos Lodge

We stayed at Lobos Lodge for two nights on our way up the coast.
The room was very spacious and clean. We had a ground level king bed room along Ocean Avenue and we did not notice road noise.

It was nice to be able to walk to the beach for the evening sunsets and for a brisk morning hike. Also, Point Lobos Reserve is only a short drive away and we really enjoyed our time there.

Each evening we drove over to Monterey to the California Pizza Kitchen for supper. After a drive through Pacific Grove, we stopped at Ghiradelli Chocolate Shop and enjoyed a sundae and purchased some chocolates. This shop is not as nice as the Square in San Francisco and as always, very expensive.

Our only problem was that they delivered the continental breakfast and the earliest they would deliver was 8:00am, which is a little later than we liked. I noticed some people at checkin told them that they would be gone before the breakfast was delivered, so don't bother. If they insist on delivery, it should be available earlier (we left a note on the hotel suggestion card). Also the muffin and fruit were good, but not the breakfast we are used to on vacation (we like something more substantial for hiking).

Overall, a good experience, would like to stop back again some day.

“Great Place to Stay - Just One Complaint”

Lobos Lodge

4 of 5 stars

We stayed here many years ago and were pleased that it was as nice as we remembered when we checked in last week (end of May 08.) We must have gotten their best room when I read some of the complaints from other reviewers.

It was on the upper floor with a small balcony overlooking the courtyard. We purposely avoided a room on Ocean Ave because of traffic noise. This room was dead quiet and we're light sleepers. Yes, there was a Lysol smell that another reviewer noted, but we put the fan on and opened the sliding glass doors and it was soon gone.

We had a king bed, large room and bathroom, corner gas fireplace, and I'm pleased to emphasize that it was immaculate. The light carpeting looked brand new and the blanket was enveloped in 2 crisp sheets. The furniture is casual (we're not talking The Four Seasons here), but clean and comfortable.

Fresh fruit, juice, pastry and the San Francisco Chronicle were delivered at a prearranged time. A coffee pot is in the room, but the coffee is really awful - a shame because it doesn't do justice to the breakfast served on china.

The people at the desk were welcoming and the steps to our room were lined with pots of flowers. The large parking lot was convenient since you never need your car after arrival. The beach, shops and restaurants are all within a few blocks of the lodge.

We paid $185. at 3pm on a week day. By 5pm the No Vacancy sign was up. It was at the top of the price scale but well worth it for the reasons stated above.

Hint - if you travel to the Monterey Peninsula in May, the pink ice flowers surround the scenic walk along the water. Amazing - it must go on for a half mile.

Five miles south of Carmel is Pt. Lobos National Park. Don't miss this tiny gem - absolutely gorgeous. We have traveled extensively in this country and abroad, and it is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been. Easy hiking trails that follow the ocean - I can't say enough about it.

And don't miss the scenic walk that starts at Carmel Beach. You have the ocean on one side and quaint Carmel cottages on the other. Just perfect in the early morning.
