We stayed at this hotel for the weekend in June to attend a wedding at The Highlands Inn. With their rooms averaging over $700.00 per night, we had to find something a little more affordable for this family of four. I have to admit after reading some of the other reviews it was a leap of faith to book here. Well what a pleasant surprise to find that the good reviews are accurate! We stayed in the William Hartnell cottage that has not been remodeled. Although dated, the cottage was extremely clean and allowed for a family of four to sleep comfortably with a twin bed for each child and a double bed for parents in separate rooms. The cottage area of the property is like a quaint little neighborhood and our unit had an outdoor table with chairs set beneath a large shade tree. We also had other relatives staying here. A couple stayed in a remodeled duplex. It was beautifully decorated and had a deck in the back and a hammock! Another couple stayed in the main hotel building, again, dated yet extremely clean. In fact, many other wedding attendees that came by "our place" for a cocktail before the evening wedding were jealous that they were staying at the run-of-the-mill hotel rooms and paid more for them! The hotel staff was friendly and glad to offer suggestions when asked. One of the most unique things about the property was the beautiful garden with pathway running along the back side of the cottages. Lots of native plants and many were in full bloom. Amazing. There is a shopping center just across Route 1 with restaurants and a wonderful supermarket with a full deli and bakery. Also within short walking distance is a beach along the pacific coast. This hotel is unique and well worth a stay if you are looking a quiet low-key place.
