Warning: We visited this property in January while making plans for my daughter's July 07 destination wedding. We live on the East coast. We booked almost all their rooms for our wedding guests plus the parents of the bride and groom and posted this information on my daughter's wedding web site so that our wedding guests could secure a room. Today, March 6th, we have all received e-mails cancelling our reservations. The e-mail simply read: Please contact the owner of the Monte Verde Inn and Casa de Carmel regarding your reservations in July for the wedding party at your earliest convenience. His telephone number is ___________. His name is: _________. Unfortunately your reservations must be cancelled. However, when we call the number provided, there is no answer. This Inn has nearly ruined our daughter's wedding. We must now start all over looking for affordable accommodations for our family and guests PLUS the bride and groom.

When our favorite Carmel inn, The Vagabond House, was not available, they suggested Monte Verde Inn. The web site isn't ready and the few reviews were mixed. To say I was worried, is putting it mildly, BUT we throughly enjoyed the lovely little place! The bedroom was spacious and well appointed, the sun porch was lovely and the little kitchen had everything one could need. Everything was freshly painted and very clean. An added bonus, the location couldn't be better! The staff we observed were friendly and efficient. The little breakfast basket of muffins and yogurt, juice and cheese (which is included in the price), while simple, was certainly sufficient.

the Monteverde Inn is in a terrific location. A couple blocks from the beach and right in town. There were pro’s and con’s with our stay.

Pro’s
1. Dog friendly. Our pooch was welcome which is always a necessary Pro.
2. Location. Right in town and by the beach. We walked to everything.
3. Room was cute. Little sitting area with a table.
4. Little breakfast basket was delivered to our room with o.j, muffins and yogurt.
5.Staff were very friendly.
6. Some rooms have a kitchenette which would be great!


Con’s
1. Price. I have to remind myself that this is Carmel and prices here are higher than other places. But $165.00 on a Sunday night was too high in my opinion for what we had. The room was cute but in need of updating.
2. Bathroom No bath and a tiny, tiny little shower. The light/fan was very loud.
3. I could hear my upstairs neighbors.
4. No central area or common room. I always like having a little area with a dining or sitting room, maybe even a computer to use.
5. Needs a little bit of a facelift, or maybe just some b&b botox.



We LOVE Carmel and has a lovely time but next time I think we will try another place. For the price, I think we can find something a little bit better.

We checked into the Monte Verde Inn only after checking out of another hotel that didn't live up to its reviews. Monte Verde is in the heart of Carmel By-The-Sea. It's a 5 minute walk to just about anything in town, including the beach. Don't be fooled by others who say they're near the beach. Many are not. Monte Verde really is. We found many of the so-called 4 star hotels to be 1960's style converted motels and really kind of run down. Monte Verdi isn't that. The room was Spanish-loft style, with real comforters on the beds (not the generic hotel bed spread), classy lighting, and beautiful furniture. We had a full kitchen (not just a kitchenette), and a sun-room. Someone with real taste and class did the interior design and it shows. This is a cozy, classy place. The service was great and the complimentary breakfast (simple cereal, coffee, juice etc...) was a perfect start to the day. Open your window and you can hear the ocean. We'll be back for sure.
