The hotel was magnificent we have never experienced such incredible service before. The restaurants, shopping, and the beach are all in walking distance what more could you ask for.
The breakfast in bed was a real treat also, it was like a second honeymoon for the two of us. Over all I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed at in Carmel.

From the moment we arrived at the front desk we were treated like royalty. Mornings,we were greeted with a delivery of fresh breakfast pastries, delicious coffee and juice. The inn, with its quaint setting and ammenities, combined with the ammenities of Carmel, made us feel as though we had been suddenly placed in the French countryside. I could have been content to rest all day in the gardens reading, but just a few short steps away were chic boutiques, local coffeeshops and too many fine restaurants to ignore. Our two teens had the time of their life surfing. The staff was friendly, and the accommodations charming, clean and cozy. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will be back.

I booked a room to attend a wedding in Carmel. However, a reservation
with a paid one-night deposit means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the owner of this property. I recently received an email note that the reservations for this wedding party were ALL cancelled.

Because playing telephone tag with a small inn can be inconvenient in different time zones, I emailed to ask the reason for the cancellantion -- the wedding had not been cancelled. Of course, the inn never sent an email reply. That might mean that I would have proof of their lack of integrity.

I got a phone call that asked that I call to supply my credit card number so that they could refund my reservation deposit. When I politely and diplomatically asked about why the reservation was cancelled, I got a polite and diplomatic response. The lady said that there had been a new manager, and that when the owner of the inn found out that she had booked a wedding party, he got mad. He felt that a large group that booked the inn would create too much noise (is what she implied) in a residential area. (Did I mention that most of us attending the wedding and staying there are over 50?)

To be honest, from other guests who called to check this situation, I get the sense that the new manager underpriced our rooms at a popular time of year, and has since been fired because of it. If the owner was so adament about the "no-groups" policy, why did he not clearly tell his manager about that as a matter of basic training? This is either a matter of money-grubbing lack of integrity, or inept management on the part of the owner who can be cavalier in how he treats guests.

Be aware: he also owns Casa de Carmel, among other properties in Carmel.

I can deal with the fact that this is a small inn, so booking reservations is very inconvenient. My phone call and email asked me to call them back so that they could credit my account for my previously booked reservation (NOT a toll-free number) between the hours of 8 and 3, Pacific Time, i.e. NOT convenient for anyone who works and lives in a different time zone. This place is all about what is convenient for them, not for guests.

Warning: We visited this property in January while making plans for my daughter's July 07 destination wedding. We live on the East coast. We booked almost all their rooms for our wedding guests plus the parents of the bride and groom and posted this information on my daughter's wedding web site so that our wedding guests could secure a room. Today, March 6th, we have all received e-mails cancelling our reservations. The e-mail simply read: Please contact the owner of the Monte Verde Inn and Casa de Carmel regarding your reservations in July for the wedding party at your earliest convenience. His telephone number is ___________. His name is: _________. Unfortunately your reservations must be cancelled. However, when we call the number provided, there is no answer. This Inn has nearly ruined our daughter's wedding. We must now start all over looking for affordable accommodations for our family and guests PLUS the bride and groom.
