Lovely hotel with excellent service...sort of an upscale cross between an elegant B&B and small family motel. We would most definitely stay here again.

The Glorietta Bay Inn consists of a large main building--the former Spreckels Mansion, with a library, parlor area, and porch area open to all guests, for reading and relaxing, where the breakfast and afternoon cookies and lemonade are served. The main building houses the more unique and expensive rooms (like a B&B). Clustered near the mansion are a series of separate buildings that are more like a standard hotel or motel wings.

Our room was on the ground floor of one of the motel-like wings, across from the pool. It was smallish (for two adults and two children--not a problem though since we spent most of our time on the beach), and clean and comfortable, with tasteful decor, well-functioning AC, and a flat-screen HDTV with a zillion channels. We didn't use their internet so I'm not sure how well that works. The room safe was big enough for our laptop and there was a sizeable in-room fridge, and a microwave in the breakfast area.

The pool area is small but well-maintained (I watched two staff members clean it every morning) and has comfy cushioned chaise lounge chairs and umbrellas. A large decanter of ice water mixed with fresh lemon slices was present poolside.

The housekeeping staff did an excellent job. Staff was friendly, courteous and professional...and seemed to be everywhere always cleaning or polishing something. Fellow guests seemed to be families with kids and middle-age or older couples.

The Inn is DIRECTLY across the street from the Hotel Del and a five to ten minute walk to the beach, depending on how long you have to wait to cross the street at the signal. Within walking distance (just fine for my kids) to blocks and blocks of excellent restaurants and shops--we never had to use our car.Coronado offers bus service to San Diego and around town, and there were always several taxis parked on the street nearby. GBI offers a well-stocked, free breakfast...cereal, fruit, juice, pastries, bagels, etc., and let us take pool towels to the beach. You can rent beach chairs, umbrellas and surf boards at a small shop up a block from the hotel (Little Sam's?) for reasonable rates.

We did swing by the Hotel Del on our last night (a Thursday) to see what we were missing (the GBI was over $100 less a night than the Del's cheapest room when I was making reservations for our trip). The Del is structurally unique and beautiful and closer to the beach but I found the lobby, shops and restaurants very crowded and quite noisy. I liked the smaller, more personal, more peaceful feeling I got from the Glorietta Bay Inn.

My fiancee and I stayed at this hotel from June 27-29,08, in celebration of my 37th birthday. The rooms were nice and clean and the staff was very helpful. This was a wonderful stay. We highly recommend this hotel. This hotel is great !!!!!! The prices is the best in Coronado, and the rooms are nice and clean. The standard rooms are small and cozy. This will now be are second home every year for my birthday.

We stayed here May 17-23 and loved this place. We had a standard king room (free upgrade as the room was available) at the back of the mansion. The room was enormous with great air con and a nice balcony with a table and chairs. Beds are huge and very comfy - the room could not be faulted.

We did start off in a queen room 439 though which is on the ground floor and we could hear every step the people above took due to creaky floorboards - we got moved the next day - ask for a top floor room if you stay there.

the hotel staff are amazing - always friendly and helpful. breakfast was lovely - bagels, pastries, breads, yoghurt, cereal, fruit, eggs, etc. there a 24 hour business centre with free internet which is great. parking is $10 a night but they will deduct this if you manage to find on street parking - theres a tiny street at the front with room for about 10 cars that is not metered.

the pool is heated which is nice and there a lovely jakuzzi (can't spell this!) too. sunbeds are all round the pool with cushions on and free towels and chilled water. free coffee is available 24 hrs in reception and free lemonade during the afternoon.

if you fancy a few drinks in central san diego, there's a bus (901) that goes from right outside the hotel straight to the gaslamp via petco park that costs $2.25 and runs til 12:30am - it is so convenient.

beware when spending the evening on coronado. although there are numerous restaurants they all shut really early. you would struggle after 9pm to get anything at all, especially on a week day so go out early.

this hotel was perfect and we absolutely loved our stay there - stay here if you can - its ace!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in March for a conference. We had a standard king room in the back of the hotel. It was a quiet room and we never had a problem with noise during the stay. The bed was comfy and we enjoyed having the mini fridge in the room. The breakfast was average in the morning. Cereals, fruit, bread, pastries, and beverages. The cookies and lemonade in the afternoons was a nice touch. We used the jacuzzi during the stay and had no problems. Overall we had a nice stay except for two issues. Housekeeping wasn't as thorough as I would of liked (a couple days they didn't vacuum the room among other things). We could not get the wired internet to work in our room, even after having somebody from the hotel take a look at it. The only area with an adequate wireless signal was the lobby/library. As we were here on business, this was quite a drawback to the experience.
