Booked this hotel based on travelers reviews after reading it was a better value than the Hotel Del Coronado across the street and in reference to that point I agree. We were right across the street and were able to still take advantage of the beach and restaurants at the Del while paying a more reasonable $295 rate at the Glorietta, but frankly the Glorietta wasn't worth that rate either. Aside from comfortable beds with good bedding, the luxury stopped there. I'll start with the positives: the front desk staff were professional and friendly- no complaints. The landscaping of bougainvillia and roses were lovely and were well cared-for by the hard-working gardeners. The rooms were clean, but the free hi-speed internet didn't work, the bathroom in the room was tiny and dated - which is my main complaint for the whole hotel- based on the website we had decent expectations- it looked lovely and in fact was... probably 50 years ago. There was paint peeling in main salon and a color which could only be called smoke-stain yellow, broken outlets, frayed carpets and furniture which looked like it was collected from Goodwill with a few new antiques here and there. At breakfast, people were climbing over eachother to get to the buffet which was no better than the Comfort Inn we had stayed in the night before en route. As we were eating, the staff began breaking down the empty tables and fold-down metal chairs (!) brought in for the breakfast service all around us and we had to navigate around a huge clear plastic bag of garbage to exit the room- I suppose this was an efficient way to clean up, but while guests are still eating? It seemed like the kind of service I would expect from a Motel 6.
In comparison to the very- overpriced rates at the Coronado, yes, it was a value, but frankly, the whole place could do with a major sprucing up, both in decor and in basic restaurant service. I would compare this hotel to a good 2star hotel in Europe.
