“It's more than meets the eye”

Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel

4 of 5 stars
California

I enjoyed my stay. The room was much nicer and bigger than I expected. It was older but well maintained. Very clean.
Each room has a fridge and a micowave. It has a large closet and lots of places to put things.
I enjoyed that the pools are open 24 hours! The food in the cafe is inexpensive and very good.
This place is not fabulous but it is a nice clean friendly place to relax by the pool and the bar is fun too!

“Is like a welfare hotel--Don't stay here!”

That other reviewer is right, the pool area is filled with transients who are not hotel guests. I even overheard one guy describe himself as a transient and had a court date because of it. There are also hundreds of very loud screaming kids running and jumping and doing "cannon balls" dangerously into the hot springs and pools until late night. It's truly a creepy place. It is too bad because the hotel itself has a lot of potential. The only way I can describe this place is to you to picture a housing project that has several pools in the courtyard. The main issue is that non-hotel guests are allowed to use the pool for a very cheap price. I also noticed people sneaking in through the gate. Management seems very tolerant of their unique atmosphere and overall creepiness. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Desert HotSprings itself is a good place to visit, just check out one of the better hotels even if you pay a little more.

“Not fancy, but it was fine.”

Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel

Apr 28, 2008

There was a nice variety of pools, both hot & cold. It is an older property, and a bit dated, but we were expecting that. It was a reasonable value, and we would probably stay again.

“Terrible”

We booked this hotel because we wanted to try out the pools. Well, the pools were nice, but need some updating and as for the hotel....I wouldn't stay there again. It was not worth the price we paid for it. For a hotel that was over 100.00 a night I expect a bit more.
The man that checked us in was trying to be funny, but I found it to be a real turn off. The room had a nasty smell to it when we walked in. The roof leaked during the night. We listened to the rain dripping in all night. The karaoke music was loud and we could still hear it at 12:30. We got three sodas there and paid over $6.00. Needs some real improvements. We were a little leary when we pulled up and saw the sign outside. We should have turned around and ran!!! When we mentioned the leaky roof to the manager we got nowhere. A reputable hotel would have tried to accomodate us with something.
My children enjoyed the pools and the views were beautiful, but that is where it ends!
We also had massages done at the spa that were less then average!! Good price but you get what you pay for there.

“Great 24 hour pools, less than average rooms”

Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel

Jan 6, 2008

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel several times and like the 24 hour pools and hot tubs. We do all of our evening dates in Palm Springs which is 10 minutes from the hotel and very high end. The hotel is dated and needs to be completely remodeled. The hotel sells day passes for locals and others staying at neighboring hotels. This is good for the hotel and their locals but is a nuisance to those who pay to stay at the hotel. The pool area can become crowded with kids and locals during the day so beware of this especially if you go during hot summer days as well as holiday times. I recommend this too people who want to spend time at a spa type of hotel and do not mind a few distractions. I do not recommend this hotel for children or people who do not like outdated accomodations. I return to this hotel because I like the healing pools and can sacrifice accomodations for a few days.
