I've been a member off and on for 15 years and my kids always pick the WAP over the zoo because of the animal experience. However not only is the new tram ride a disappointment, but they also charge guests an extra $10 for the experience. As members we didn't have to pay but the 25 minute trip was so bad in comparison to the scrapped monorail that we got off feeling as if we wasted our time. Yes, you do get 20 feet closer to the animals in some spots but you only cover half the park, the guide hardly stopped long enough for us to snap a picture and the tram is noisier as well. The electric monorails glided along and you were allowed to stand if needed...not so on the new cars. We left wondering if this was a temporary situation while something was being done to the rest of the park or where they put all the other animals. Twice the guide talked about animals being moved to other places but we never saw where. My group and I speculated as to whether or not the abbreviated, costly tram was an effort to "encourage" visitors to pay more for the photo caravan or similar excursions. If you didn't pay for these trips you always had the option of walking some of the trails, however that would still not get you to areas covered by the previous monorail.
In contrast...the Lion Camp was fantastic but go in the morning...the lion and her 2 cubs were romping all over the enclosure and we spent almost an hour just watching them. When we walked by the area twice in the afternoon they were still asleep in pretty much the same place.
I love the Wild Animal Park and have been visiting since it opened...I will go back but will either not take visitors or will warn people of the abbreviated safari. It is not the same experience it was in the past. Sad.
