“Excellent View, Clean, Close to Night Life”

Dockside Boat and Bed

I really like to stay right on the Harbor (I don't like sand but I like the beach). You can't get closer to the harbor then on it. This Botel is right on the water, clean, the bed was comfortable, and the waves rock you to sleep. You have great views and are within walking distance to lots of night life activity. There are also free purple buses that run to the local aquarium, shops, and restaurants. You do have to park kind of far from the botel but they have a cart to move your things. Really enjoyed myself, my husband and I stayed 4 nights. Continetal breakfast delivered to your door. I hate to be up for those early breakfasts so that worked out great. Definately will stay again. I stayed at lots of high end motels and hotels but this was unique.

“A real find !”

We stumbleld across this place on the internet and decided to give it a try. I admitt, i wasn't expecting too much. We were very surprised when we were checked in to the Nauti Girl for the night. The boat was spacious, warm and cozy. The beautiful wood interior was immaculate. It had all the same appliances as a hotel suite (plasma TV, DVD, full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, etc.). The gal who checked us in was warm and friendly (i think she is one of the owners ??) Our boat was just a stones throw from Gladstone's restaurant, the only downside of our stay is that the back deck of our beautiful yacht literally overlooked Gladstone's patio ! But from the front of the boat we had great views of the Queen Mary and a near by light house. In the morning we were greeted with a small basket of pastries, juice and fruit, just perfect to get the morning going. I have since recommended Dockside to many others and would definately stay there again in the future.

“Delightful alternative!”

For a quick reunion with my daughter en route overseas, the Dockside Boat and Bed was a perfect alternative to the usual hotel. We stayed on the Archangel, a 2 bedroom, 2 bath fully appointed yacht and found the location convenient for a day trip to Catalina and a wide array of restaurant options for dinner. We enjoyed a drink at sunset, walked to a delicious dinner nearby and awoke to the gentle tidal motion in the morning. We were provided a delightful breakfast basket and decided to linger in the pleasant atmosphere rather than pursue any further sightseeing!

“an incredible score for a convention-going family”

I attended a conference at the Long Beach Convention Center. Travelling with 2 adults and 2 kids, I didn't want to cram into a hotel room and eat out all week - wanted something with more than one bedroom and at least a rudimentary kitchen. What a find this was! Closer to the Convention Center than any hotel but the Hyatt, scenic, private, and with just the amenities we needed, "The Boat" became the favorite place for all our friends at the conference to come and relax. (Lost track of how many trips to Albertsons we made for more cheese & crackers, to feed the hungry visitors!) The kids (6 & 9) were in heaven - little one spent hours with a hand towel "swabbing the decks!" - and 3 months later, they're *still* telling everybody about "our" boat! I'm still patting myself on the back for finding this place :-)

A few downsides one should know about:
1) Noise! Party boats, early morning bullhorns, schmaltzy music all night that we could only assume was coming from the Queen Mary's ballroom, and tour boats going by all day, pointing you & the B&B out to the tourists. Didn't bother us all that much, but I can see how it could.
2) Somewhat rustic water-saving bathroom - we enjoyed the novelty, but some might not.
3) We found the breakfast baskets a bit unremarkable, and a little sparse for the 4 of us. Management is reasonably responsive to requests, though, and you can always stock the fridge.
4) Parking is a pain. We lucked out and had a friend in the Hyatt without a car, so she checked ours in there for us, right across the street. The recommended parking at the Aquarium is neither close nor cheap, and the Hyatt parking costs even more if you can't get guest rates. And unfortunately, you need your car to get to any source of groceries. (You could walk to Albertsons on a very energetic day, but you wouldn't want to carry much back!)

Overall, though, the downsides were well worth it - if I ever get back to Long Beach, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

“What a Great Find !!”

Dockside Boat and Bed

We discovered the Dockside B&B on this site and had to book based on what a unique idea. I was weary about staying on a boat- but it was SO much better than a boring hotel room. We cancelled most of our sightseeing plans to stay on the boat, eat snacks, drink and watch the world float by. We loved the little "extras" - free snacks/water, free harbor cruise passes, the breakfast basket each morning. After two days we were more relaxed than after a week anywhere else. Thanks to Kim & Kent for being such great hosts- a true B&B experience.. on a boat ! We'll be back soon !
