“Classic LA Hotel”

Hyatt Regency Century Plaza

Stayed here recently on a business trip. The hotel is quintessential L.A.; even if I had been plopped into this hotel blindfolded, I would've known I was in LA--it's just got that feel. Rooms were large and clean and the "Heavenly" bed did not dissapoint. The room service food was exceptional (steak sandwich was best I'd ever had) and delivered quickly. The pool and bar areas also looked very enticing, very "Hollywood", although I never used them.

Two very minor complaints: 1) service was average, but you pretty much expect that in an impersonal chain hotel, 2) while the hotel is very, very centrally located, the actual location of the building is kind of desolate, as it's surrounded by office buildings and a Mall. Then again, who walks in LA?

I would stay at the Westin with no hesitation and recommend the hotel to anyone in LA on business or pleasure.

“Overpriced and short on service”

I was excited to stay at this hotel because I love Westin hotels and this was supposed to be a nice place. You can imagine my disappointment when my stay at the Westin Century Plaza Hotel & Spa was nowhere near satisfactory!

In fact, my experience with this hotel was so miserable that I could not wait to check out and go home!!

Here is a list of just some of the things that went wrong:
-In-room internet connection did not work
-In-room TV internet did not work
-A stranger's bag was left on my bed by a bell hop the first night of my stay
-Spa overcharged me for one service and refuses to refund me for a service I did not receive

This does not include all of the things that went wrong . . . I will save you from the misery of reading every single detail of my awful experience at The Westin.

I am a platinum Starwood member and I will NEVER EVER stay at a Westin Hotel after my experience at The Westin Century Plaza Hotel & Spa in LA.

“Westin Century is a classic”

I would give this hotel 5 out of 5. This is my second time here and it has been much better then my previous stay at this hotel. The overall hospitality, courtesy and attentiveness made our stay pleasant. We asked for a king bed and were given a room at the front of the hotel were there is construction of a new resident complex. Times are changing.

In the sixties and seventies this was the place to be. The hotel was among the tallest structure in the area. Presidents and celebrities would wave from the balcony of the hotel. People from all around would take part in the local entertainment. The Schubert Theater and the Playboy club were among the favorites. Local Automotive dealers were among the highest price vehicles. The Century City Mall was also the place to shop.

Today the curved building stands out among business hi rises and continues to draw visitors from around the world with special packages for spa lovers, Glamour seekers and romantic couples. There is always something going on at this hotel which keeps it more then active.

Room service was excellent. Calling for valet service ahead of time did not save much time, so, we did not call ahead for the remainder of our stay. However, the Asian valet was attentive, he would run from place to place to fetch our vehicle and he always had a smile on this face. Kudos to the Asian valet for a job well done. The bar area was friendly, but not prompt on busy nights. The Breeze restaurant was prompt and the food was excellent. For some odd reason we did not receive our Sunday paper.

On final review, I think the hotel should offer King beds on the back side of the hotel for those who would like a romantic view. The hotel should incorporate wireless connection for the bar area and plasma TV in their rooms when they become more common place to the public.

We would definitely stay here again.

“Great, Clean, Well Located Hotel”

This hotel was great!
The furniture in all of the rooms is updated, with very modern bathrooms. I'm really picky and the only thing I noticed was that the carpet was a little worn, but nothing to complain about! The beds and the bathroom were great!

Every room has a balcony, ours had a great view of downtown LA.

The pool and patio area seemed great, we didn't get to spend enough time there though!

Our only complaints, the valet and parking is kind of a mess and it took a little while to get a cab.

Keep in mind that LA is not really a walk around city, so you have to drive or take a cab pretty much everywhere. The hotel is located right by a huge shopping area and a short cab from the Rodeo drive area and Sunset strip.

All in all this is a great hotel and we would go back in a heartbeat! FYI, we got a great deal on this hotel through Priceline which made it even better!

“Rude Staff”

Hyatt Regency Century Plaza

Aug 1, 2005

The physical plant is very lovely - public areas, pool, etc. - but:
- I stay in Westins several times a month and usually the service is very good. For a "luxe" hotel and for a Westin, the staff at this property was very rude and unhelpful. Examples:
- Someone calling herself a "sales manager" was incredibly snobby and snippy with me when I asked her a very simple question. She had chin length straight blondish hair. Look out for her.
- I went to the pool towel stand, which was empty of towels. Two people were standing behind the counter, a woman in uniform and a man in a suit. I asked them both where I could find towels. They both just stared coldly at me and didn't respond. I guess it was beneath them to answer a very standard and justifiable question.
- Some of the valets were incredibly cold and snobby, as if they were movie stars and I had dared to approach and ask for an autograph. I was driving a very expensive car, and I tip extravagantly, so it wasn't on that basis. I have no idea what their problem was. The only exception that I recall was a very sweet, older Asian gentleman, who was very polite and helpful. The worst was one of the valets in tails and top hat, an older man who bore a slight resemblance to Victor Garber. He treated us as if we were filthy street urchins who had stuck our fingers in his food.

Also, the heavenly bed here was the least heavenly of all the Westins I've stayed in. The mattress was not especially comfortable at all.
