“You would really need a car...”

Los Angeles Airport Marriott

I was bumped off my flight and Air Canada put me up at this hotel. There is an aiport shuttle, which does the rounds of a few hotels and eventualy I got dropped off at my location.

It appeared that this is primarily a business traveller's hotel, and there were quite a few "business travellers" checking in at the same time I was, with my puny little airline voucher. Call me paranoid, but there was a big difference in the level of service and courtesy displayed to them versus me. So, if youa re a business traveller (or perhaps anyone who pays a higher rate?) you will be treated very well. In my case, the desk clerk went off somewhere in the back and forgot all about me, after 10 minutes I asked another girl to check on her and she finally came back.

However, the room was very nice. The beds are great, loads of pillows, down duvet, the works! The balcony overlooked a very nice outdoor pool area, but it was too chilly to try out. I grabbed a late dinner from the sports bar and it was the usual fare, nachos, potato skins and such, but it was tasty and plentiful.

I did attempt to go for a walk in the area and other than more airport hotels, there is not much to see. Be careful not to wander off the main drag, as the area can get a little "iffy".

“Excellent choice”

Perfect place to stay – whether for just one night en route to/from somewhere, or for a few days if you want to discover LA.
The rooms are small, but nicely decorated and comfortable. I have to agree with one other reviewer that the beds are great! Try and ask for a room overlooking the courtyard with the swimming pool – the view is nicer.
We enjoyed sitting out on the loungers by the poolside and a swim – the water was very cold though.
There is a shop, which sells souvenirs, cold drinks, some toiletries and postcards.
The business centre has access to the internet – expensive. Access via TV from the room was appalling – next to impossible to navigate because of the resolution and connectivity speed.
It is very quiet at night despite the fact that people are checking in and out throughout the night – everything is well organised.
For food we tried the sports’ bar and the steak restaurant on the premises of the hotel – both excellent on service, quality of food and presentation! Breakfast is served in the main restaurant and it is fantastic! The menu choice is wide and service is simply exceptional.
The concierge desk operatives are very helpful and knowledgeable. We booked a couple of tours through the hotel. They pick up right outside the front door and bring you back in the evening. Universal Studios tour was good, but the LA by night we would not recommend. We were picked up at the Universal and driven to the Walk of Fame and the Kodak Theatre, dropped off there for 40 minutes with barely an explanation of what to look for and where to go – it was scary and disappointing – the area is poorly lit, there is lots of scaffolding surrounding the buildings, tacky tourist shops selling cheap T-shirts, etc. Then we continued to Rodeo Drive – what an anti-climax that was as well. The guide kept pointing out brand names of designer shops along the way and got overly excited when he spotted a Ferrari parked in front of one of the restaurants… LA lights looked so beautiful in the distance while we were driving through the higher parts of the city, the tour could have been so much more interesting and exciting.
There is a bus stop very close to the hotel and during the day you can get to Manhattan Beach (worthwhile outing), Santa Monica and the CBD very easily.
From Santa Monica half an hour’s stroll will take you to Venice Beach. Coffee or even lunch at Beachside Café is superb. And don’t miss the canals strolling through the back streets off Venice Beach – not the real thing (Venice, Italy), but nevertheless an interesting interlude. Santa Monica is well groomed and organised. Monsoon café is a gem if you want to be wowed by décor and delicious food.
If we ever return to LA, Marriott LAX will be our choice to stay!

“Nice for a quick stop”

Los Angeles Airport Marriott

This is the place to stay for international guests. The shuttle is a bit slow from the airport but once there the service begins. The check in is super fast and they also have check out kiosks so you don't have to wait in line. Also airline web check in kiosks.
The rooms are clean and the bed is super comfortable.
The guests are varied. From prom people to tatooed ones to old geezers.
Noise level is ok. You are next to an airport. Rooms were quiet enough to get a good sleep.
All in all it was nice for a quick stop over on internatinal trips. Wish the van came quicker for the drop off. And let's have no tipping for the bag guy. The give you the look if you don't tip.

“Best value if you have a car”

We stayed in this hotel for one night only, comming directly from the airport with the hotel shuttle. The check-in was fast and the staff friendly. We got a room on the groundfloor with direct access to the pool area. That was excellent, because we could relax after a long flight. Remarkable are the beds, it's like heaven! The car rental companies are just around the corner, so we got our car in the afternoon. The hotel has a guided parking, but due to a conference in the hotel, space was rare. They take 19 $ for self-park with in and out feature. in about 20 minutes (what is excellent for LA), you reach St. Monica and Hollywood as well. When we come back, we'll stay there for some more nights!

“Great Service”

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while attending a dance convention. We arrived on a Friday night and check in took all of 5 minutes. I was traveling with a friend and her kids and we asked if we could be on a high floor and close to each other. The very nice front desk clerk gave us adjoining rooms on the 8th floor overlooking the beautiful pool area. It was perfect.

The room is very small, especially the bathroom. We joked that you could sit on the toilet and brush your teeth in the sink. Although the rooms were small, they were furnished nicely and were very clean. The beds were comfy with lots of pillows.

We ate at the two restuarants (not the steak house) and both were very good. The service and the food was fine. It was very convenient to have restaurants at the hotel. The prices were also reasonable. Try the champ fries in the sports bar, they were really good.

I have a feeling the hotel was packed because there were at least 600 dancers and their families there for the convention. It did seem a little crowded and the elevators took forever because there were so many people using them. However, the service from everyone was friendly and efficient.

The fitness center is a little hard to find but it is big and well equipped with weight and cardio machines. The treadmills have flatscreen tvs attached to them. I had never seen that before. The pool area is very nice and tropical and the pool is huge. It has a 9 foot deep end. I didn't go in, but the kids had a great time.

One thing you might want to be aware of is the parking is $19.00 per day, so be prepared. Valet is a bit more.

I would definately recommend this Marriott. Oh, and one of the things I love about Marriott hotels is that they are all non-smoking.
