We stayed only one night at the Monterey Bay Inn and didn't arrive until late evening. But, we were greeted with a smile at check in and the process was very quick. We had a King size bed with a pull out sofa. It made for a tight fit when the sofa bed was pulled out but not too bad. The king size bed was heavenly. There was a feather top on the mattress, down comforter and down pillows. There was a dvd player. A CD player and CD's by the bed. The bathroom was big - double sinks, tile and granite on the floors and shower.

The location was great. We were in walking distance to Cannery Row and the aquarium.

We will stay there again!!

Stayed in Harbor Bay View room....just a wonderful visit....view was great.....pretty little park to the right...Bay and gentle waves directly below....in the distance the pier and mountains. The bed was the most comfortable of this vacation. My only comment would be that the breakfast is the same every morning. Would be nice to have some variety....also the quality of the breakfast was just good.....would not stay here for the breakfast but let me tell you, the room itself was beautiful...the balcony....the roof top hot tub with great views...the location between the pier (restaurants) and the Aquarium (must see) was just great!! Would definitely stay here again!!

We really loved this hotel - the bathroom was great as was the view of the ocean! The only problem that I had with this hotel was the lousy Internet service; it was so bad that I gave up after the first day. They did agree to remove the $10 per day Internet usage charge from my bill though.

I read through some of the other comments before posting this review and found that price was an issue for many people. I can understand - shelling out $400 + for the night is a bit much.
The solution is to try and get here during the off season and book online at their website ([--]) for the best discounted prices. We paid a rate of $280 per night for a full ocean view king room.
At that rate there is plenty to love about this clean, well located, stylish hotel. The bed is super comfortable, the bathrooms are modern and spacious, the views can't be beat and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
About the breakfast - it's a lovely gesture to have it brought to your room during a time period you request. I much prefer it to the lobby snack counters you find in so many hotels these days so bravo to them for offering this service. Anyone who thinks they should get a 5 star breakfast is missing the point; it's complimentary - coffee, muffins and fruit - basic but good and brought to your room with a smile.
The hotel location is great but if you get tired of walking around, do try the surrey rentals - they are the absolute best (and most fun) way to see the waterfront along the beautful path linking the aquarium to the wharf via cannery row.
The aquarium is a must see on a trip to Monterey and when we got back to our room we felt like we were still there as we watched the sea otters playing alongside dolphins while sea lions jostled for room in the sun. The hotel kindly provides binoculars.
If it's a night in you want, the hotel rents dvds from a machine on the second floor and the guys at the taco stand across the street stay open late making good cheap food. The hotel also has a jacuzzi for the weary traveler on the fourth floor.
