Recently had friends and family stay at the Vagabond Inn in downtown Palm Springs for a special function.

The property is charming, nicely landscaped and has a fantastic pool area! Everyone that stayed there enjoyed the continental breakfast served poolside and said the staff was very accommodating. They have a nice product and good rates. I would definitely book friends or family there again.

I stayed here while visiting a client, and what can I say? it was great as ever. The pool area was the place I spent the most time, it was clean, and sunny, and has a beautiful view of the mountainside behind it!
I will stay here again and again!

Room starts getting hot, mid-day. Call to front desk. "Everything is working". 8pm....room hotter. "Huum, we'll look into it". 2:45am (no exaggeration) have to go out on deck because room is a sauna. Standing outside I notice just about everyone else is doing the same thing!!! I call again. "Oh...um...well the motor died yesterday morning..." They KNEW it was broken but didn't say anything for fear people would not check in or would leave early. How did they fix it? Offer fans? No. Offer to put us up elsewhere? No. Offer a refund? No. A reduced rate? No. An apology? No. The place was clean, etc., but that was just not acceptable service, honesty, handling, or resolution.

We've just returned from 3 nights mid-week at the Vagabond. It didn't start too badly; the room was quite big with micro, fridge, iron/board and coffee-maker. We ignored the run down furniture(a lot of hotels need re-modelling), the dirty coffee maker and the dubious house-keeping. We liked the large pool , the well-manicured grounds and the large breakfast area which provided a reasonable variety of food.
However, our experience went downhill rapidly on the second day. The elderly receptionist was sullen and certainly was not enjoying his job! By 2pm on days 2 and 3, we got fed up with the wet towels in a room not serviced. In the early hoursof the third night, we were woken up by at least 50 peoplesitting around the pool area; some were drinking beer and some were in the pool. We've no objection to partying but not so loud that it wakes up a lot of guests. In the morning there were some disgruntled guests who were worse off than us. There was banging on doors as well as the partying. We did not get any sleep.

On check-out, we mentioned the noise during the night. We were told by the elderly receptionist that 'the pool was locked all night'. It certainly wasn't and we just got the impression that this guy just wanted a quiet life.

We've been visiting Palm Springs at least twice a year for the last 15 years so we have stayed in a variety of motels. We won't be going back to the Vagabond! We probably won't try any other Vagabond motel if this is indicative of the attitude of staff.

At $89 a night mid-week, you can do a lot better than this. I only wish that we'd had the experience of other Tripadvisor Vagabond guests.
