My wife and I just completed a great weekend at South Beach Place. We left the hustle and bustle of south Florida for the more laid back,
Key West, atmosphere of South Beach Place in Vero Beach. We stayed in the "black and white" room and found it to be extra clean as was the pool and the lush garden area that surrounds it. In the afternoon Jimmy Buffet music fills the air around the pool to further enhance the Key West style of the motel .The absence of carpeting in the rooms is refreshing as the room floors are all done in white tile. The ocean is virtually a stones throw away, across a small cul-du-sac on which the motel is located just west.
The hotels' accommodating host, Brian, was most informative and gave us great tips on local dining establishments which were within easy walking or driving distance. My wife also took advantage of the use of one of the motels free bicycles to further explore the area. We enjoyed our stay so much we are planning an additional trip to the motel in the near future with members of our family.

Yet another jewel that we probably would never have discovered without Trip Advisor. Seeking to decompress after my daughter's wedding, and continue the party with a group of 6 diverse couples for a few days of celebration of a milestone birthday, we were fortunate to find this place, which all of us can see returning to forever.

It is easy to see why so many guests come back for years, and stay as long as they can. From the warmth and genuine joy that Brian the host/owner radiates, in welcoming guests to what he has created, to the unique setting, in a peaceful residential area, across from a beach that belongs on Dr. Beach's list, to the colorful, tropical retro Florida flair, to the wonderful pool area, we could not have had a more memorable interlude.

My real concern is that with the enthusiasm that will overcome all lucky enough to stay here, and just the number of people that my guests and I have already recommended the place to, I might never be able to get in again!

When we walked up to South Beach Place, I knew we were staying at a unique place. Brian, the owner/innkeeper showed us around in his relaxed, easygoing style. He told us that the bikes to our right were for all guests to use, towels in the wicker basket were provided for the heated pool, and that the beach was a short walk east of us. A blackboard stood outside the reception area with hand written information about the day’s weather, and the low and high tide times. We all instantly felt comfortable, and welcomed.

Our teenage girls loved our rooms which were both decorated in fifties era furnishings. The rooms included kitchenettes, dining table & chairs and a small living area. We found out that most of the guests come every year and stay a month or more. I can understand why. The feeling of South Beach Place is more of a small community than a motel. The guests get to know each other. During our stay, the guests organized an Easter potluck and send around a birthday card for Brian. Even though we only stayed a week, we were included. What a different and wonderful place to stay. We will definitely come again!

Having nothing to do this weekend I decided to further explore my home state of Florida and randomly chose Vero Beach to visit. With a #1 hotel ranking in T.A., how could I go wrong with the South Beach Place?

Observations:

This is obviously an old Econo Lodge type two story motel which has been lovingly restored for maximum class and comfort. All rooms are individualized and include fridge and kitchenette.

Small touches, like free bike rentals, free internet in the rooms, classical music playing by the heated pool, lots of extra decorative pillows on the bed and Brians enthusiastic hospitality push the SBP over from good to excellent.

Persnally, I feel it's more fun visiting a small, family run botique hotel than some massive, generic, soulless international chain hotel, don't you?

Nightly rates here seem set at $150.

Room was very clean and bed was unusually comfortable and virtually no noise disturbed me last night.

The SBP is right cross the street from a public park and a nice big Atlantic beach with soft, fluffy sand. For food, I can marginally recommend "Rips" right down the road for inexpensive barbeque and $1 draft happy hour specials.

You must check out the McLarty Treasure Museum a 15 minute drive down A1A. This is a small, state run museum featuring salvaged treasure from several Spanish galleons which sunk there in 1715. With a $1 entry fee, you can't go wrong.
