What could be better than a stylish apartment in the heart of the city? Not much and MDA apartments delivered on the package in a big way. My husband and I stayed in the MDA Apartments for a weeklong leisure trip to the Windy City. For the price of an upscale hotel room we got the use of a furnished one bedroom apartment near mass transit, an easy walk to Michigan Ave, Millenium Park, the Theatre District and Grant Park -- and half a dozen other hot spots. The only downside about the location was that El was right outside, but since we used to live by the elevated line in Queens the noise wasn't a big issue for us.
For those who relish in modern design this apartment was perfect. Probably my favorite feature was the kitchen which had the full array of appliances including a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and oven. An island doubled as a breakfast bar with convenient seating for two. The kitchen was packed with cabinets that held tableware and dishes for 4, basic pots and pans, glasses -- pretty much everything you needed. Several local convenience stores in the area eagerly sell everything else. The bedroom was simple with a queen size bed, nightstand, and tall dresser. There was abundant drawer space and a decent sized closet as well. And the LCD TV in the bedroom was great in the mornings. A large bathroom complete with soaking tub/shower and vanity with storage as well as a comfortable living loom with leather sofa/chairs and another LCD TV complete the furnishings. Oh and did I forget to mention the washer/dryer and 2 hall closets for even more storage? How about the fitness center and the movie room located on the building's 6th floor?
We loved our stay here and would definitely to do it again. Like most big cities, Chicago in the Loop is loud and busy at all hours of the day and night. But its also got the best architecture (and a real appreciation for it), art and science museums (the Adler Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium are top notch attractions), a multitude of restaurants of all types and price ranges, and an amazing dynamism. Another activity that is a must for people with an interest in architecture and the city's history is one of the Architecture Tours by boat. Fabulous views of the city are behind every curve of the rivers. The MDA Apartments fits into that portrait perfectly. The only reason I didn't rate it an excellent is because of the practical issue of the noise that might turn off some other guests. Also be aware that you are technically leasing the apartment for your stay and you don't get daily cleaning, fresh towels, etc. like you would at a hotel. But if those minor issues aren't a concern I would overwhelmingly recommend the MDA for your next stay in the city!
