“Parking was a problem”

Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare

3 of 5 stars
Decatur, Illinois
Jun 23, 2008

We booked a park/fly package before flying out of O'Hare. The stay at the hotel the night before was great. Front desk was helpful and the room was comfy. Shuttle service was great. Between the hours of 7am and 11pm the shuttle between the hotel runs every 15 min.

Upon returning to Chicago after our trip the shuttle was right there to pick us up. Not even a 5 min wait. Once again great service.

Once arriving back at the hotel to pick up our car... the front desk was friendly til we got out to our car and tried to use the validated ticket to exit their parking lot. The automated machine kept telling us that we had an invalid ticket. They had a call bell. The front desk told us to bring the ticket back to the front desk. We began the 2 block walk back to the front desk. I showed them our receipt for the park/fly hotel stay before our trip. They scanned the ticket again handed me the same ticket and said the ticket should work now. I walked the 2 blocks back to my car. Once again tried to exit the parking lot.. Once again... Invalid ticket. We rang the front desk again. They once again told us to return to the front desk. My DH wasn't going for that. He said that we already made one trip back to the front desk... that someone needed to come out to the lot and let us out. The insisted that we return to the front desk. My DH insisted that they come to us. They then asked our name... my DH gave it to them and the gate then opened. All they had to do was press a button at the front desk. Why they couldn't have done that to begin with. I have no clue.

Would I stay there again. If I wasn't using their parking lot... yes. If I had to park/fly again. No way.

“helpful staff”

Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare

4 of 5 stars
Blue Springs, MO
Jun 22, 2008

Faced with the prospect of being stuck at O'Hare overnight due to a missed connection, I frantically called my husband, who was at home, and asked him to locate a hotel room for the night that I could get to by shuttle. Using his Holiday Inn Priority Club points, he quickly booked a room at the Crowne Plaza. Within minutes I was on the phone with Victor at the hotel, who directed me to the shuttle bay, across the street from the airport. I was tired and frazzled, and couldn't figure out where I was going. Victor stayed on the phone with me as I walked out of the airport, across traffic and didn't hang up until I had the shuttle location in sight. What a guy!
After a smooth transport to the hotel, I was in a clean and well-appointed room. I didn't have any luggage, as it was in the bowels of the airport, but I did have clean sheets, a hot shower, thick towels and a wonderful club sandwich from room service to help me de-stress. Except for a dirty carpet, the room was great. The next morning the shuttle was ready to take me and a LOT of other people back to O'Hare. In my opinion, they should give out numbers to the people waiting for the shuttle, as some folks were quite rude, getting on before others who had been waiting longer. Maybe that doesn't always happen, as the day before had been filled with airport delays and cancellations, but it would still have made a lot of people happier to be guaranteed a "first come, first served" seat on the shuttle.
I'd stay there again, and I REALLY appreciated the way the staff made a stressed, tired traveler feel welcome and cared for.

“Enjoyable stay”

Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare

May 23, 2008

I flew into o'hare on a business trip and stayed at this hotel. It was a breeze getting to the hotel from the airport. If you need to attend a show I recommend staying at othe Crowne Plaza or one on the other 3 hotels on the River Road Strip, as these hotels are all located just across from the Donald Stevenson Convention Center, and are all much closer (especiialy when considering the traffic) to the airport than the other hotels off of the strip.

Anyways back to my hotel experience, I enjoyed my stay, the service was superb and the rooms were very clean and well kept.

“Not Worth Your Money!”

Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare

Apr 13, 2008

I stayed in this hotel not by choice, but because it was my conference's venue, which I did not understand as this was too far away from downtown. Anyhow, the room was decent and the bed and pillows surprisingly comfortable. They also provided a lavender spray for the pillows, earplugs and eye covers, which were very nice. Note, no fridge, microwave or safe and the closet is open.
On the downside, the tv only had limited channels which was very disappointing. I was also not happy with the bathroom. I walked in and found the holes in the wall underneath the shower handles exposed. The next day, the dated blow dryer died and despite attempts to bring it back to life, nothing happened. The toilet did not flush very well.
Moving on to the conference area, the room was just either extremely cold or warm. We had to complain several times to have the temperatures adjusted. The service during the day was great. We had good food for lunch. It was a different story though, during dinner, they did not provide us with water on the table as they did during the day. Water was hidden by the waitresses, instead they had a cash bar that sold water bottles and soda for 3.75 each. It is, by the way, 2.75 in the gift shop. I suggest that you buy beverages from outside the hotel.
Rick's bar and grill was just okay. Stay away from the crab cakes.
It gets uglier - internet services were not free. I paid 5 USD just to check in for my flight, only to find out that there was a computer by the lobby which can be used to check in. This was not made known to us, so if you still choose to stay in this hotel after this review, use the "courtesy airline check-in" computer provided.
The hotel is very far from downtown. You will have to pay $40 going into downtown without traffic. The hotel shuttles, however, run 24 hours and you can talk the driver into taking you somewhere close. He dropped off a group of us (8 people) to giordano's where we had very good deep dish pizza. There is also an excellent restaurant beside the hotel - Gibson's. They have very yummy steak. Beware of the mouth watering dessert - one order is really good for 6-8 people, so split it with the group. The hotel concierge was very friendly and knowledgeable, he also directed us to Miller's Pub, downtown, which was a nice local place where they have tasty ribs and more.

“Comfortable stay”

Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare

Mar 21, 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

Just got back from 3 nights in Rosemont at the Crowne Plaza. I will agree that the beds and pillows provided a comfy sleep, that was very nice! They also provide earplugs, sleep masks, linen spray, relaxation cd (not for keeps) daily newspaper and coffee pot. So that was also very nice.
Now for the few bad things..I didn't like that the 2 waterbottles left on the nightstand had a pricetag of $2.95 each. I was also flabberghasted at the cost of the food in the deli off the lobby...$5.95 for cold cereal and milk?! Crazy! $5.00 for a bagel? Also 5.00 for a grapefruit...I think that is terrible to be so greedy for a buck to have to take advantage of the guests that way, even a soda from the vending machine was 2.75 . We didn't spend a dime on anything they had to offer and took our business elsewhere.
The complimentary shuttle made it convienent to get to O'Hare where we would get the L train into the city, we bought 3 day CTA guest passes at $4.00 per day, so 12.00 each. Bargain! Made on and off very easy, check out the CTA websight called trip planner ,it allows you to put in your home and destination then it gives you the trains you need to take. I had my notes for the Shedd and the Museums so we were all set. I do think that the drivers of the shuttle busses do drive like maniacs though!! We almost got hit twice, I am glad to be out of that confusion!
The bathroom was kind of old like people mentioned, but it was just fine for us, we could have had better hair with our own blowdryer though, thiers was a strange hose-like contraption that blew smelly air at your head, it was also VERY loud and I was afraid to wake the other guests by using it too early in the a.m.
I did notice alot of pilots and stewards staying at this hotel, maybe they know best?
All in all we were happy and well rested, I would just like to have seen more reasonable prices for food and a continental breakfast would have been great!! ( That was $14.95 b.t.w.)
