“Great spot”

Ogunquit River Plantation

5 of 5 stars
Rosemount, Minnesota
Jun 17, 2008

We arrived late (after 10PM) at the Ogunquit River Plantation and walked to the desk gave them our name and they handed us a key...
simple as that. Our room was clean, quiet, but quite a walk from the parking lot. We got up the next morning to a beautiful view of the river inlet, the tide was up so it was flowing nicely, and quietly scenic...yes, quietly scenic...peaceful and beautiful. We went downstair to the hotel lobby, where they put out your basic continental breakfast, PLUS they had a waffle maker and measured out cups of waffle mix. Three minutes later, I was drinking coffee, eating fruit and pouring syrup on my hot, delicious, perfectly cooked Belgium waffe.

From there it was a scenic 10 minute drive along the main street in Ogunquit to the beach, and an early morning run along the beach. The tourist part of the town of Ogunquit is quite close, yet far enough away that tourist traffic doesn't totally block your exit from the Plantation. Why they call it a plantation, I will never know, but it was a very nice place, great breakfast, reasonable rates, clean rooms and helpful, friendly staff.

They also have kayaking available, I think daily, and a pool, which tends to get crowded, but that's what people go there for. There is no beach to speak of at the hotel, but there is one a short drive away...
and yes, you probably don't want to walk, so it is a short drive. Had fun! Would do it again and stay there!!

“Wonderful Experience!”

Ogunquit River Plantation

5 of 5 stars
Charleston, SC
Nov 13, 2007

At first we were a little put off by some of the negative comments, but we agreed that we're always at least one star "more positive" than most reviewers. We were right! We booked online, off-season (but during peak leaf color!!!!!!!) for under $60/nt, which included a decent breakfast. So...here are the pros and cons...
PROS: Room size, cleanliness, views, breakfast selection, general location of this hotel relative to things to do in Ogunquit (though it's not walking distance to town). It is across the street from a great local bar where we watched the Red Sox in the playoffs - quite the local experience! For most of the rooms, you did have to walk down a flight of stairs but it wasn't as big a drama as some posters have indicated. There was one computer for use in the breakfast lobby - and free wireless in the lobby. We had an excessively large deck overlooking the absolutely breathtaking marsh where we saw fly fishermen each day, surrounded by the red autumn leaves of the peak leaf season we were so lucky to witness. The hotel is "right on" the highway and pretty easy to find, but yet we heard no road noise.
CONS: The building itself looks very industrial, esp. on the left side. I'd recommend that something be done to improve this - certainly didn't fit in to the quaint look of everything else in town. It would be great to have free wireless in the rooms. The deck, though large, wasn't very private - if the person in the room next to us chose to, they could sit in "our" deck chairs or walk up to our window very easily. Perhaps a planter or something could be put up to afford a bit more privacy.
OVERALL: Stay there! It's beautiful! Best time to go: The last week of October (when we went) The weather was still nice, and Ogunquit really knows how to decorate for Halloween!

“Fun place for family reunion”

Ogunquit River Plantation

4 of 5 stars
Central Illinois
Oct 21, 2007

We stayed here on a family reunion (13 people). We stayed on the lower level where our rooms opened to a large yard-like area overlooking an inlet. The kids played catch while the parents and grandparents visited on the patio and drank cool beverages. The pool was up the stairs and around the corner, and an excellent feature for the kids. Breakfast was a little cumbersome. You had to go to the main office (which was easy for us but some steep walking for my mom) where it was often crowded and not real organized.

“Average to Below Average Stay at the ORP”

Ogunquit River Plantation

2 of 5 stars
New York City, New York
Oct 8, 2007

We stayed at the Ogunquit River Plantation for a wedding, August 10-12, 2007. We booked the hotel room for a couple reasons - it was one of the few places that didn't require a 3+ night minimum stay, and the price wasn't through the roof. Overall, the experience was average, but we wouldn't stay there again if we could help it.

Checked in late and got our room with no problem. The room was located on the bottom floor, which affords you nice views and the ability to walk out onto the lawn by the water, which is very pleasant. The negative to the bottom floor rooms is the Motel 6 style setup. Your one window in the room is a sliding door that is also your front door. Your balcony/patio that opens out to the water is also what everyone else is walking on or by to get to their rooms. You have to keep your curtains closed at all times if you want any privacy. Clearly not the best setup.

The room itself was adequate but far from nice. I felt like the bedspread and furnishings had been purchased about 20 years ago and hadn't been touched since. The beds were not overwhelmingly comfortable. The bathroom in particular could have used some improvement.

This also seemed to be just about the farthest hotel in Ogunquit from the town center. It's the last stop on the trolley. Luckily we had a rental car so we could drive the 5-10 minutes into town. On the plus side, it is on the north end of town so you can avoid the traffic backup that always builds up on US1 on the south side of town.

Overall, you get what you pay for. It's one of the cheaper hotels in town and one of the few that doesn't require some outrageous minimum stay. I guess that's why it's not that nice. If we can help it we'll stay somewhere else next time.

“Sad Hotel”

Ogunquit River Plantation

Sep 17, 2007

I want this hotel's photographer because the place looked nothing like the photos of it on the website. The rooms were old and were in desperate need of updating. We had a "patio" level room, which meant we had to take all of our luggage down a slippery flight of stairs, a gravel hill, through a 6 inch deep puddle just to get to our rooms. Now, we are not "complainery" type people and were traveling with three active adults and found this difficult, as it was pouring rain. The staff did offer to help us and other guests. Our rooms did not have an interior entrance-we entered through a sliding glass door that did not seem very secure. The morning breakfast was ok, although I've never before come across a donut that I just couldn't eat. The waterfront was unappealing-more like a soggy swampland. The worst part was that there are several other hotels in the area, just as underwhelming, but at half the price.
