“Not impressed”

Just returned from a business weekend at this hotel. I have to agree with some of the previous posters regarding the condition of the bathrooms. I was on the 8th floor and my bathroom had mold in some of the tile grout. The shower curtain liner had seen better days. One of my co-workers was on the 7th floor and her bathroom was in the same condition. The bathrooms definately need an overhaul. The room itself was ok. Though there were some holes in the wallpaper as if something had been hanging there and had been moved. The bed was actually very comfortable and was triple sheeted. Pillows also comfortable. My air conditioning unit was very loud and didn't cool the room sufficiently. Eventually in the middle of the night I got up and opened the window which helped to cool the room. Unfortunately I could then hear traffic noise from nearby route 1. The food was ok. Nothing special. I had stayed here many years ago and was pleased but this property has gone down hill in recent years. I would not stay here again.

“Wedding Factory!”

Sheraton Ferncroft Resort

Stayed one night with wife and two children for a family wedding. Upon check in, we found a large water puddle on desk. As I have been in Hotel biz for many years, I knew to call front desk, and politely, ask to be moved."Were sold out" was the response. I called back to ask if someone could come and take a look, as water was coming from ceiling, and please replace ice bucket and water glasses. "We'll send someone, but we don't know when." We went to wedding in ballroom, which I must admit was wonderful, and when we returned to room, nothing had been touched, but at least leak had stopped. Room was dingy, peeling wallpaper, and cornice board over window was falling off. Hallways were a mess, in fact, beer bottles, cans, and glasses that were in hall at 5:00pm were still there in the morning! Hallways were nasty! Lots of loud people in hallways at all hours of the night. This property is a wedding/meeting/convention factory, and gets beat on pretty hard. I was very surprised at the condition of the hotel because I have always enjoyed Starwood/ Sheraton properties. While this hotel is in a good spot for tourist who wish to explore Boston, and the North Shore, I'd say stay away from weekends during prime wedding season!

(P.S. I did send my concerns to them via their email review process, no response!)

I stayed at the Sheraton Danvers back in July 2004 when I was attending a wedding nearby. I thought the facility was beautiful - the entry way, lobby, and main floor are beautiful. Also, the grounds surrounding the hotel are beautiful as well.

The room was sufficient, and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had no problems with housekeeping. We had a nice view of the grounds from our room.

I didn't eat at the restaurant there, but did get room service once and was satisfied with what I got. The did have a nice bar and it seemed to be somewhat popular on the weekend nights. The rehearsal dinner was held in a private room that was very nice, very spacious.

The New York Sports Club on site is great, admission is free for hotel guests and it was a decent sized facility. It was popular with guests/members, but not so crowded that you couldn't get a machine.

All in all, I was satisfied and impressed with this hotel.

“It was Really Bad”

Sheraton Ferncroft Resort

Aug 1, 2005

I just returned from the Sheraton Danvers/Ferncroft for a coference weekend, and I concur wiht all of the folks who said it was awful. The lobby is fine and the main living room is pretty well-appointed, but hides the many problems with this alleged resort. The rooms are dirty, there was mildew in my shower, the liner was dirty, the top comforter was stained, and there was no honor bar in the rooms, which I find strange for a three-star property. The carpets are really dirty and there isn't nearly enough staff to ensure the cleaning of carpets, especially in the ballrooms and meeting rooms. The food was not terrible, but not very good. I was served a mystery meat, and the breakfast buffet featuring hot foods is so bad that it is a bad deal at ten bucks. I'm not a cheap person, but I wouldn't have spent more than five books for that type of food. The gift shop has a 75% mark up on its items. A hotel employee told me that the prices were out of control, and they exploit the fact that you are in the middle of nowhere, a bag of peanuts (small) and mini deodorant cost me about 10 bucks. The ONE good thing is that there is a Boston Sports Club on site, with classes and a pretty good facility. Try not to stay here if possible.

We just had a meeting at this hotel. There were lots of problems with this hotel. I was on the 1st floor down a ramp. My room was moldy and opposite one of the event rooms that was used for a wedding on Sturday night. The hallway to my room was the busing station for the event, so when I tried to get in to my room I had to step over trays filled with dirty dishes. The smell of old food permeated the hallway (and my room) that night and the next morning. That is where the stained carpets come from! They do have some nice staff members. We had drinks in Mulligan's and the wait person was wonderful-actually all of the staff there were nice. The front desk people were also nice. My room was clean and the bed comfortable and I think the people on the upper floors had reasonable rooms.
