I stayed in Grand Hotel des Bains last August with my husband and 12 year-old son.
Everytime during our stay we felt very welcome and the staff was always helpful and kind,in special in the restaurant at the breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was lovely and bright with fantastic ocean views and delicious food (the breakfast was the best we have had during our 3 weeks trip in France!!!).
Our room on the 2º floor was beautiful decorated, very spacious, with two balconys and great sea views !!
The Hotel has an incredible location, directly above the sea and in the Locquirec town centre.
Locquirec is a small fishing village in the North Britanny coast, good for exploring the "Cotê de Granit Rose",Roscoff and many lovely litlle Britanny beachs.
I surely recomend staying in grand Hotel des Bains for the superb location and great food!!!

“A smug, self-important place.”

I'll be honest, I didn't actually stay here. They put me off within 10 seconds of arriving. We walked up the drive with our two kids and the receptionist came RUSHING out and hurried our clearly offensive looking children out of the way, least they be seen or heard by any of the the guests. She looked down her nose at us, and said that they had many important French people staying there and that children were not welcome (although they have a family room!). The hotel does have a fabulous postion, but I don't feel happy when a hotel thinks it's cut from a better cloth than I am. Clearly their reputation has gone to their heads. For a warmer welcome altogether head round the coast to Trebeurden and stay at the delightful Ti Al Lannec. There you'll meet Petit Loup (Little Wolf) a GIANT leonberg dog who greets the guests with a laconic swish of his tail. Charming place.

Stayed here for 5 nights in late june. The hotel in general is very nice but I found the rooms (church view) claustrophobic. The weather was brutal so this didn't help. On arrival we found that our room had a musty smell (most likely due to the weather) and on mentioning it we were told we could (a) upgrade and pay for a better room or (b) wait for two nights for another room of the same grade to be freed up. I found this response too lax entirely but gritted my teeth and put up with it for the two nights. The second church view room was as small as the first but at least didn't smell.
The building is old and in relatively ok state but in my view could do with modernising as when one opens a window in the upper floor rooms, the draft causes a howl from the small and dark corridors.
As I say, the weather didn't help.. had there been sun rather than rain we would have been out most of the time as the location is very good for walking and exploring the coast.
I just think it's a pity that our complaint was not acted on appropriately from my perspective. We were supposed to stay a sixth night but canceled it to stay elsewhere in Brittany.
PS the hotels clientèle is mostly retired couples so a young family staying here would not be appropriate. It is also affiliated with a Quiet Hotels group so forget late night revelry. Food was OK but a little safe (see clientèle base).
In summary, the location is brilliant but the value for money is terrible compared to other hotels of similar size and grade. I feel that the hotel is charging for a reputation established well in he past and simply not present in the here and now. I won't be back.

Nice, elegant hotel with a very good restaurant, a nice pool and Hammam. - While I found some of the better hotels in Brittany old and in need of refurbishing, the Grand Hotel Des Bains gave a sense of freshness and lightness which we enjoyed- It's a good base from where to explore the region. If you are into sailing, it is worth noting that it is located on a beautiful bay offering good sailing opportunities. There is an Ecole de Voile Francaise just opposite to the hotel.

“Nearly there”

Grand Hotel des Bains

We visited this hotel out of season. It is a little off the beaten track and the small village that it is in was completely desserted.
The hotel is through a set of gates that seem to be kept closed. It is set right next to the sea and at night there are lights in the trees that light up the beach beautifully.
The hotel has obviuosly had time and money spent on the decour which is that of beside the sea chic. The rooms are spacious and well decorated. The room we had was slighty damp when we arrived but this soon dissappeared.
There is a lovely indoor pool along with a spa and jacuzzi.
Dinner was slightly dissappointing, perhaps I was expecting more, but the menu was rather tame and unimaginative and the wine list had a very limited selection for such a French hotel.
Definately worth a stay.
