“Can't Wiat to Go Back...”

Playa Escondida

My husband and I stayed at Playa Escondida in April for 10-days. It was absolutely fantastic, we loved every minute and can't wait to go back. We just booked our second trip for November. We stayed in the Guest House for the majority of our stay and the Cabana for the last two nights. The Guest House is high on the hill, but we liked that it was off the beaten path. The Cabana was fun, but a little too close to the other rooms, but still very comfortable. The drinking water in the rooms was great, housekeeping awesome, and the staff at the bar and all throughout the resort were very accomodating. We rented a car and went on adventures to Punta de Mita, San Pancho and Sayulita during the daytime. We never walked into town, but heard from other guests that it wasn't that much fun. The food was fantastic, but the chef that was there in April is leaving this year to open his own restaurant in Puerto Vaharatta, which is disappointing b/c we loved his food. We ate many meals at the restaurant and never had one bad experience. Town is so funky and fun and Sayulita Fish Taco can't be missed. We also enjoyed Don Pedro's for a high-end dinner right on the beach. Ok, are you sick of my review yet? I can't say enough about Playa Escondida, book your trip if you like adventure! You won't be disappointed! If you're looking for the four seasons, this isn't it.

This is a belated review...We stayed in March in Bungalow 1. It was like sleeping in a treehouse w/ no walls. Rustic, yet somehow chic. That kind of describes the whole place. Funky charm, but not luxurious. Food was very good, not great. Pool was fine. Sunsets beautiful. Beach gorgeous..but: waves too rough to really swim when we were there. But what really made the place for us, the service. Personal, yet not intrusive. The day after we arrived, we had a family emergency, causing us to have to return to the States within 48 hours. The owner's wife got our information, made ALL the return flight and taxi plans for us, and told us to just go sit and relax on the beach. THAT is SERVICE! Though it was a very stressful time, she made it better, something which we'll never forget, and can never thank enough. Playa Escondida is not for everyone. It is special!

We just got back from a week-long vacation, and we loved this place. We stayed in Villa 2, which was fantastic. But we got peeks inside the other villas, which were also very nice. Next time, I'd probably go for one with a King bed, but that's the only thing I'd do differently. All the rooms/cabanas are unique and very well-designed. Just fantastic. The pool is amazing, and the beach was swimmable, too.

We also enjoyed the restaurant. We had about half of our meals there, and went into town for the other half.

We both had a great massage, too.

It was very romantic, even though we had our 9-week old daughter with us.

Best of all, the service. The staff was very excellent. So friendly! We'd definitely stay here again, and I hope to soon.

We stayed in the Casa Luna Uno from May 1 to May 11 and had the time of our lives. Luna Uno is the most fabulous house. We loved the full kitchen. It was so nice not to have to leave the house to go eat. However, when we did eat in the restuarant, the food was great and prepared with care. The setting of Playa Escondida was astoundingly beautiful. The beach was gorgeous and so private. The pool was wonderful. It was located within the bare restuarant area which so convenient for snacks and drinks. The staff took impeccable care of us and kept the grounds sparkling clean. We also loved the laid back vibe. We felt comfortable in our bathing suits where ever we were, even if we were eating dinner. We really felt right at home because the staff was so freindly and kind. We loved the dogs and cat that live there. That made it feel like you were in your own home. We really hope Playa Escondida stays just the same because it is perfect right now. It is so romantic and private, but not to private. Just right for a wonderful relaxing romantic vacation.

“Great getaway....”

My wife and just returned from a 4 night stay at Playa Escondida... it was fabulous! We would definitely go back. I don't know that we would stay more than 4 or 5 nights - we really thought everything about the resort (pool, beach, bar, restaurant, spa, lodging) were all fantastic. We stayed in Bungalo 1 - it's a "jungle" view and was fine. If we booked more in advance we would have reserved an ocean view room. It's still a fine Bungalo to stay in, but don't get one of the other 2 Bungalos - there's not nearly as much privacy as the 2nd story Bungalo Uno. Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper - the birds can be loud, escpecially in the morning.

The staff was wonderful. Alejandro was our waiter many mornings and evenings - wonderful service! We took surf lessons from Sergio - he was a great teacher and we were riding waves within 10 minutes of getting in the water.

Our meals at PE were all great! $27.50 (USD) 4-course dinners couldn't have been better. Breakfasts and lunches were equally great, and we thought well proced.

The beach in front of PE is secluded and private - wonderful if you want to relax and read. If you're looking for a more active beach, walk to town (read their directions first) or take the taxi for 70 pesos. The town of Sayulita is small and nice. We spent our days in town on the beach and surfing. Surf boards rentals are 50 pesos/hr.

Last bit of advice - take the bus to and from Pueto vallarta. Its only 20 pesos/person and takes about an hour. Ask the bus driver (in Spanish if you can) to "call you when you're in front of the airport" (llama me cuando enfrente del aeropuerto). It's a breeze!
