Wow!! We can't take credit for choosing this hotel as we booked a tour and stayed here for one night. The hotel was lovely - spacious room with bed, sofa, armchair, dining table and chairs, small kitchenette with microwave and fridge. The staff were courteous and friendly. Nancy herself came out to greet us. She explained that the dining room was on the side of the hotel so that skiers could ski up, dine and ski away again. It was a lovely area for a walk and there was a golf course across the road. The village looked like an Alpine Legoland. It must be like a Christmas card when the snow comes. ps the food in the restaurant was really good and reasonable.

I have just returned from a tour of Banff, Jasper and Vancouver. We stayed at Nancy Greene's Cahilty Lodge during a couple of travel days. The rooms were spacious (2 double beds each), were clean and had great views of the mountains. Sun Peaks itself is quiet (as the ski season has finished), however there were bear sightings here - a mother and 2 baby cubs. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant (fahitas) and also breakfast was good. Nancy actually came out to meet our coach which was a highlight for us and then waved us off. Would definitely recommend.

“Awesome ski holiday”

We spent a week in Sun Peaks from 27 Jan - 3 Feb 2007, travelling all the way from New Zealand to ski in Canada. It was a fantastic ski holiday. The size of the ski field and the standard of accomodation and facilities are very high compared to the ski fields back home. The weather was sunny thoughout most of our stay. Apparently it has not snowed for a week prior to our arrival, so parts of the ski field were a bit skiied out, and a bit icy. Nevertheless the ski condition was fantastic overall. The trails are long and wide, and queues for the lifts are virtually non existent. I would suggest heading over to Mt Morrisey, where it is even less croweded, more scenic and the snow condition are better. I highly recommend dog sledding and snow mobiling, which took us through some amazingly beautiful snow covered country, including over a frozen lake. I also highly recommend staying at Nancy Greenes Cahilty Lodge. We stayed in a room with a small kitchen, it was very clean and tidy, and the staff are generally friendly and helpful. This is the first time we stayed at a true ski in ski out lodge, and it was fantastic. Oh and I have to mention about the locals, they are very friendly. Knowing we are tourists they told us about the best places to ski and recommended the things we should try. We had a fantastic holiday at Sun Peaks and will certainly consider coming back in the future.

We stayed in a studio room, 358, at Cahility from Jan 27 - Feb 2nd. Shuttle from Whistler to Sun Peaks, 5 hrs, was provided free for a 7 night stay. Despite the room being too hot, a bit small, no cupboard space, we had a great time. It was clean, had adequate facilities, and each morning on the TV, channel 5, at 7:30 was a very good ski report. Lodge owners, 1968 Olympic champion Nancy, and husband Al go out of their way to make sure you enjoy yourself and get maximum from your stay at their hotel and at Sun Peaks. We skied with them on several mornings, just sign up the night before and they will give you a tour of the mountain and free ski tips to top it off. Al took 13 of us foreigners to an ice hockey game in Kamloops one evening in the shuttle bus, another night they hosted a welcome drinks hour for their new guests. They do this for all their guests. Both are amazing people. It's a true ski in/out hotel, with locked racks in a room by the door for your skis overnight. Units seem to be individually owned but the staff are extremely helpful. There is no supermarket, except a one room tiny shop with $$$$ prices. Get your shuttle driver to stop at the Kamloops supermarket on the way through before arriving. We had soup and toast in our room for lunch most days, and dinner was pasta, bacon and eggs etc, all bought at the supermarket prior to arrival so you need a bit of a meal plan to shop with. Buy your alcohol prior as well. We had a great kitchen so eating in our room was easy. I can't praise this set up enough. Free internet also. A great mountain, excellent dry snow, lots of varied runs. I recommend the fondue at the Sunburst restaurant on Thursday nights organised by the Sun Peaks Resort, catch chair at 5pm, have wine and fondue, and ski home under a leader, in the dark about 7:30pm on the newly groomed 5 mile green run with a little light on your head. It was awesome. The full moon helped, and the wine no doubt. There's no better place to stay than Nancy Greens.

“Great Location - Great Snow!!!”

Nancy Greene's Cahilty Lodge

Jan 23, 2006
13/15 found this review helpful

We stayed for 10 nights in December 05/January 06. The hotel is ski in/out and in a great location. The whole resort is tiny compared to say Whistler in Canada. We had a 1 bed apartment with full amenities except in room laundry. The room was large and the facilities were good. The room could sleep 6. With 3 double beds in total. The staff were great. The skiing tuition was excellent. Our 9 year old daughter did a 5 day ski programme and had a fantastic time.

The village is small but the skiing is great. It was extremely busy on a few days that we were there but in all it was excellent.

Advice:

The village/resort is tiny and has no real supermarket to speak of. They are stores which advertise they are markets but beware. We had a full kitchen but ate out most of the time due to the fact that the variety at the markets is not great and rather lacking. A number of families were complaining of the lack of supermarket type resources in the Sun Peaks village.

There are proper supermarkets at Kamloops about a 45 minute drive away from Sun Peaks.

We went during a busy period and had vouchers for ski hire. Beware - they had hired all childrens ski's. And I mean all. They had nothing left for hire in the entire village. Luckily we went to a ski store and found some ski's for sale. We were desperate and were prepared to purchase them. Graciously, they allowed us to hire them. I would recommend pre booking your ski equipment prior to travelling there and get a guarantee that your equipment will be available when you arrive. Otherwise, no equipment, no ski!!!

Some stores do not take credit cards (such as the smallish and poorly stocked so called supermarket) - cash only. So make sure you have plenty or can get it from cash machines.
